I don't have an answer for you but just wanted to drop by and say I'll be thinking of you and hoping you hear soon.  I really wonder what makes some of the SR's not make their phone calls or maybe they just get overlooked since there's so much going on at once that it slips by the staff?  Anyhoo, I'll be thinking of you!

they arrived at airport in Chicago on Thursday the 24th

I  now learned on another forum from a recruit that just went thru recently that they removed the pay phones from the processing center and what they did was have recruits line up face to face and pass the cell phones around and if they ran out of time u were out of luck, if this is true that's not right. they should say no pay phones u must use your own phone or take the chance of no calls to home first night, As my sons phone battery was dead at 1am per his last text.If he would have known this he would have saved battery power. anyone who had a recruit go thru can u confirm this please

Things change all the time at RTC, if you want the factual answer message the PAO or ask on their FB page. The only normal in the Navy is things change.

Can this be true? No pay phones? WOW, how disappointing.

It is true that the arriving recruits must use a cell phone to make the "I'm here!" call and there are no available phone banks to do that from at this time.

Hi There lenny0861, my daughter flew out of CA on Jan 22, still have not gotten the 10 sec. call from her. She did call me from her cell when she landed in Chicago still on the plane, but that was it. I'm hearing that "no news is good news" but let me tell you, it's really hard not knowing if she made it to Boot Camp. So lets hope we hear of something soon, together! I'm sleeping with the phone these days.

With all the rush, some recruits don't get to make the "I'm here!" call on the night of arrival.  The RDC most likely will later give your recruit an opportunity to make the call, which will sound a little strange because it is pretty much the same scripted call from the first night, but you get it on the weekend after arrival or later, although your recruit may apologize for not calling.  Know that some recruits choose not to take advantage of this "make up" call because it is supervised and the recruit may be afraid of being singled out. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and Phone Cards and Phone Calls within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), for more on that.

Join the group, DEP-Leavin' for Boot Camp in January, to connect with others with loved ones who left yesterday and may have PIR together.

You may want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here. Once you know your SR’s PIR date and/or division number, watch in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and/or at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for that once it has been created. There will be a lot of great information and support for you in those groups. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions within the groups.
