You may wish to join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in August. You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. You have joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones); be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.

Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.

There will be suggestions within the information sent with the form lettter and the discussion, Recommended Places to Stay, within PIR Reference Information may give you some ideas.

Thank you for all the info!  I am just now learning my way around this site and trying to educate myself in anyway I can, here and on other sites. This is all new to me, have only had about a week to digest everything and get use to the idea of my son leaving and going into the Navy.  I am so proud but also scared of the unknown.  The more I educate myself though the better I feel.  Thank you again for your help, we will check out the pages you have recommended.

You are very welcome.

Hi, am too new here and this is really helping. Thanks much.

What's with the change to "Yard Sales Online"? You don't have to copy a previous reply.

I'm glad the post helped.

Hello! My husband just completed boot camp in February. We stayed close to base and it made it a lot easier to get him back when they needed to return after liberty. Also, it took us close to a hour to get onto base for graduation- that is not including parking, walking, finding a seat, etc. We expected delays but not a hour to drive onto base. If the gates open at 7am leave by 6am. And when returning after liberty, also leave early since everyone is going to be dropping off their sailors too. Hope this helps :)

The gates open at 6:30 am and most of the time there is already a line waiting to go in.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!  I appreciate the info!

You are very welcome.

Hello and welcome to the Navy family. Our son graduated boot camp in January and is now in Goose Creek SC for A school. We stayed at the Navy Lodge which was only about 5 minutes from Great Lakes. I initailly made the reservation under our name, but when I called to ask a question about the room they asked for my sons name and changed it on the reservation. The Navy Lodge is for active military or for families of sailors graduating from boot camp. We had a room with 2 queen beds and a small kitchen with microwve, fridge and 2 burners along with a toaster, dishes etc...We really enjoyed our stay. We were there 3 nights. After graduation we took our son back to our room and he decided he didn't want to go anywhere so we stayed in and ordered food from a local rest. that delivered. The front desk personnel were very helpful. We brought clothes for our son to change into and he was thrilled to take a shower, change and RELAX!!! We also flew from the Kansas City area and flew into Milwaukee and drove down to Great Lakes. It was about a 45 minute drive. Hope this info helps you. Make reservations early as they book up.

Thank you so much for the info.
