My husband and I just recently got married, and he was told that since we weren't married when he first went to his command that we wouldn't be eligible for any sort of reimbursements for our move, and they wouldn't be able to help us out at all. I have several friends who have married army and they paid for the entire move, so i didn't think it would be any different with the Navy. We've also been working on paperwork for on base housing, and I was wondering how long it usually takes to get your requests back? This is all still a gray area for me, and i just wanted to make sure i was getting accurate facts!

The Navy will only pay for a dependent move if they are on the orders when the sailor receives them; "accompanied" orders. The exception to this would be if the sailor requests an orders modification to add a dependent authorization. There is a time frame for that, so he should ask immediately if it is possible.

You may be interested in teh wives and GFs group. lots of discussion about new marriages and the paperwork:

Yea, I'm in kansas and he's stationed at Mayport in Jacksonville. I figured that their regs would be different, but I also figured they'd be similiar in certain areas. We weren't married when he received his orders. I guess our only options are for him to modify his orders then? I've looked into several different moving companies, and just to move my one bedroom is a thousand dollars. Its crazy.
Well I would suggest maybe moving by a u-haul just this first time so you guys can be together. If it was me I would and the next one will be on the Navy!
Yeah, that's what we are going to have to do. I think it's only about $300 to rent a trailor the size i need, so we should be able to get it on track. We're super busy planning our wedding ceremony (we had a courthouse wedding) in the fall, so things are extremely stressful right now. I know that i need to bring several records with me when i move, to apply for different things and for our paperwork. Any info on what documents i need to bring with me?
i think you need a marriage certificate and birth certificate to enroll in DEERS and get your id card. double check on that. this site might have useful info:

I've only been down there during the winter months, and i loved it. I'm not so sure i'm ready for the humidity! lol And thank you so much! He's on his way to Kansas right now actually. (: i'm so excited to see him, i've missed him like crazy! I just want to make sure everything is in order, and i don't forget anything that i need.
All the paperwork involved is way over my head, and too confusing for me. There's so much to take in and learn, but i'm slowly figuring everything out. lol
