"Darkhorse" is the name given to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, the most highly decorated regiment in the Marines. These young men are currently serving in Afghanistan. There are five companies in this battalion and this represents a large number of Marines who would appreciate any love we can send their way.
Weapons Company received several care packages in December and then HAE moved on to Lima Company. When all have finished up mailing their boxes, Lima Company will be put to "bed." The next, and probably last company, we will do is Kilo Company. There are about 170 Marines in this group, all males. The mailing date for Kilo Company is February 7. This should give us enough time to get sufficient pillowcases ready for mailing. As with every project, we need to have sufficient pillowcases for each Marine in the company to receive one.
For OPSEC reasons, I would appreciate your letting me know via PM (make me a friend on N4M if I am not already one) the number of pillowcases you will send in your box.
Sue sent me this "Semper Fi" poster. I watched the video about the Marines in Bethesda. The attitude of the Marines who have suffered terrible injuries is absolutely amazing. Here is a link with a video of Kilo Company.

Maryellen, I will check with my contact about the 15 females. I also have several female ones ready to go and could make more rather soon because I have female fabric on hand. See my note to Jackie about doing a company with goodies only.
I was thinking this morning about Christmas ... so much yet to be done and so little time. I decided that the best present someone could give me would be a yard or two of fabric or perhaps a bag of treats. :-) But then what about those cards, etc.?
DC- i sent you friend request...
I am not sure if anyone realizes this.. but my name changed from NitaBee to Nita SewBee... I had to do this because somehow my profile got disabled, so I created a new profile... just so I could login.
So since this is my first official HAE project to work on not counting the Lincoln.... a few questions for us newbies here...... Do all boxes have to have pillowcases? If so, how many do we send? I would be really happy to get a box of just foods out ASAP but it would take me a lot longer to get out if I need to have pillowcases in the box.. my sewing plate if overflowing at the moment and we will leave at the first of the year for a few months so it'll be a bit before I can sew. Would you like a box sent of just toiletries or would a mixture box be best? If no pillowcases are required of me at this moment, I can have a box ready to go either today or tomorrow!
Jackie, you are like me. I so want to get things out to these troops! It is fine not to have any pillowcases because I do want some of the goodies to go as well. If we were going to send just goodies to a company, I would like to see a half dozen boxes sent so all would have some. I could send a box right away and if you could, could we make up six boxes? If we did this, I would choose either India Company or Weapons Company because they are smaller.
I understand, through the grapevine that there may be replacements going to this region before too long. This means that if we did another battalion like this one, you could do the pillowcases for them. As I always tell Sue, there are far, far more worthy recipients than pillowcases.
Thanks for offering to send a box of goodies. Do we have a few more who would like to do this ASAP?
I have 1 box ready to go as we speak! Always have one packed here at home ready to send on a moments notice. I'm heading out to the store in a bit and will get stuff to pack another box.... so as soon as you send me the address I will send 2 boxes in the mail of just foods! My boxes always consist of snacks and healthy foods with the thoughts that sometimes the healthy foods that are not MRE's taste really good too!!!!
I have 16 female pc's ready to ship. Right now, due to lack of donations, I don't have the funds to purchase male/generic material. I have TONS of candy that I purchased for my son's squadron, but I know they can't eat it all. I'd be more than happy to send whatever is needed. Just let me know.
The CO said that dried fruit and chocolates would be appreciated as are all treats. Visit the Darkhorse site to learn more.
Love it!
