"Darkhorse" is the name given to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, the most highly decorated regiment in the Marines.  These young men are currently serving in Afghanistan.  There are five companies in this battalion and this represents a large number of Marines who would appreciate any love we can send their way.

Weapons Company received several care packages in December and then HAE moved on to Lima Company.  When all have finished up mailing their boxes, Lima Company will be put to "bed."  The next, and probably last company, we will do is Kilo Company.  There are about 170 Marines in this group, all males.  The mailing date for Kilo Company is February 7.   This should give us enough time to get sufficient pillowcases ready for mailing.  As with every project, we need to have sufficient pillowcases for each Marine in the company to receive one.

For OPSEC reasons, I would appreciate your letting me know via PM (make me a friend on N4M if I am not already one) the number of pillowcases you will send in your box.

Sue sent me this "Semper Fi" poster.  I watched the video about the Marines in Bethesda.  The attitude of the Marines who have suffered terrible injuries is absolutely amazing.  Here is a link with a video of Kilo Company.

Sue - I work (volunteer) at the USO in Palm Springs, CA during winter months.  This area supports the Marine Base at 29 Palms and although we are small in size, we are only 1 of 2 USO locations that is 100% volunteer.  The Palm Springs airport is the closest airport to the base so we see many (mostly) Marines who are traveling to/from the base.

Congratulations to Ben for his service!

thanks Cheryl.  I got to spend some time in the USO center in Hawaii when we did the tiger cruise.  It was a very nice setup and I am glad that our troops have a place like that in airports.

thanks for doing that.

has everyone mailed to Kilo?  I have the India company sitting on my pool table and will box them today and tonight to mail tomorrow or Friday.  thanks Michele for mailing 50 pcs to India as well.

Have we got any count for the H & S Company. And do we have a ship date.
Right now we are about 130 short from here but Sue said she can make up the difference if need be.  The ship date is Monday, February 21.  I will e-mail out the address by Monday.
Dori, you have me down for 50, correct?
Dori, I should be down for 20.
Birdie, I had you correct but Lyn, I had you for 15.  I have changed that.  Many thanks.
Dori, you can leave me at 15. I just had a senior moment. LOL
Put you back at 15.

Ladies, I need some input.

Do you think this shell fabric is considered "female"? I have six pc's with this design and would certainly hate to send it to H&S and have the guys laugh at each other. :)

I'd rather save it for the Bush project, than to send some "girly" pc's to the guys.

Thanks for your help!

Birdie, I am with Matt's Mom.  I think the fabric is great.  I know my husband has picked out some similar to the one with circles before.  He usually is my meter for girly fabrics.  I have sent a number of pcs that have had a sea/beach design.  I think the ones with the shells are peaceful, and certainly they need something peaceful.

I am often reminded of one very nice thank you note we received.  The recipient was a male and thanked his "moms" for the nice gift.  He had received one of the "daughter" pillowcases but loved it.  Now lace and frills might be a bit much. :-)

Ha Ha Ha. I'm trying to picture a tough soldier on lace. :)

You know, one of the notes I received from a sailor on the Lincoln was quite interesting. He told me that he picked a certain pc, because it reminded him of his daughter and he was going to give it to her when he got home. I would never have guessed that a guy would voluntarily pick that pattern, but that just goes to show what I know. LOL!!
