They did do the "adopt a sailor" thing last year. Chris' division wasn't eligible, too early in their training, but some of the senior divisions did get to go.
Families can adopt 3-4 recruits, or organizations can adopt whole divisions. Not all go, some recruits prefer to hang out in a nearly empty barracks and have a little bit of quiet down-time.
Regarding RDCs, as Anti M said, they are human. They do this for two years, and it wears them down. They're tired, they're frustrated and they're well, tired. By the end of their time at Great Lakes they're either totally mellow or holy terrors.
Im reading your post on Nov.9th and my daughter left on Oct.6th so I wondered how you are faring now? My friends children left for college this year and they have seen them or text them a lot so this checking the mail everyday and hoping for a 10 second phone call is something I don't even talk about with them. I'm just afraid if I start I won't shut up about missing her. Less than 4 weeks to graduation then maybe I can sleep.
Hi my son also left on this day, just wanted to know if you already received the box? Has any other family members of yours joined the NAVY? My son is the first and its been really hard on me, I have been so depressed.
I just received "the box" on wednesday. It came via Fed Ex. Yes there were tears. There have been others in the military from my family. But none recently. My son is the first in many years. It has been very hard on me also, thankfully I also have a 4yr old that keeps me busy! Keep your chin up. Everything will be fine. My friends/family are praying each and every day for us, that helps!
THANKS FOR THE REPLY, I DID FINALLY RECEIVE THE BOX ON MONDAY, BUT ALSO GOT A 2 MINUTE PHONE CALL WISHING IT WAS LONGER.I WANA THANK YOUR FAMILY FOR KEEPING US IN THEIR PRAYERS, I WILL DO THE SAME.GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
Thank you for this information. I Pray that I can get even a 5 min phone call. I Pray that he goes to Church and I hope he gets is Bible in time also for he forgot it when he left for Bootcamp. I decided to write at least 6 days a week; I hope that won't get him in anytype of trouble? Dose anyone know about that? I went and bought cards and will send upbeat card with fun & laughter on them to help keep his SPIRITS up.
