For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Questions about bootcamp during the holidays
Hello everyone,
My daughter leaves for bootcamp November 9th. This will be the first time she won't be home for the holidays. I was just wondering what happens during Thanksgiving and Christmas???

If he went to MEPS, got a job, and took his first oath, than he has a date he is scheduled to leave.

Dear myboysmom...I can relate, I had many tears prior to him leaving, but not in front of him....he was excited but nervous! The day prior to him leaving...the two of us spent the entire day together just having fun...we went to get his hair 'buzzed' together ...that lifted his anxiety about having it done there! If I could give you advice... go to YouTube ...search Battle stations 21 by CNN...and watch the videos out there about Boot Camp Together...any and all of them! It will put you both on the same page, and put a little ease to that "what to expect factor." You will get to see the facility, and where he will be sleeping, eating and training...its awesome! It made me feel a little better...knowing a little of what he is doing each and every day, and 'what the facility looked like'...put me 'there' with him a little bit! Hope this helps...Good luck to you and your son, check back often, this site is a great help!

My son was scheduled to leave 12/21 but it got moved up a week to 12/14. It's hard to let him go right at Christmas time, but we are going to have an early Christmas and make the best of it.

Well my last post I put he is schedule to leave on 12/21....well today he met with Chief and was told his date has been changed to 12/14 as many of the others I see here have done. Well that cuts my days with him down to 35 days from today. OMG!!! I am trying so hard not to cry but it seems so concrete now where as before it was sort of a floating day and I knew it was the 21st give or take a few but not definite, now it's definite. I hope I can make it through this without falling completely apart. I will keep you all posted.

Hi Smicelle! Welcome to this site!!! Ho do "I Handle this"...one second at a time! Get all the information you can about boot camp while he is still here (YouTube is a great source)...so you both can talk over questions and concerns you both have TOGETHER...before he leaves. I didn't find this site until after my son left, and I wished I had...I have said this in other posts...but it puts you both on the same page to talk about it! The months leading up to it were rough, and at times it is still very hard! I took the last day prior to him shipping out, off of work and spent it together...just me and him! We did lunch...went to the recruiters office one last time, We went and got his hair 'buzzed' together, this seamed to ease his anxiety of having it done when he got there, (YES, I did cry...that was over the top, and I lost it)! One thing that did ease some anxiety for me, is if he were going away to college someplace, I would spend sleepless nights worrying of him not getting good enough sleep, or eating right, and perhaps 'partying' :)...in the Navy although I miss him terribly, I know he is well fed, in bed by 10...and no drinking allowed :)! You have to find the 'brighter' side to this...you just have to :)!!!

Smichelle itsa 8 weeks. Its not for ever. There is little contact while in boot but they do get out. Keep busy wrate alot. It will be over before you know it

My son Cameron left on November 1st and it has been emotional. I just got my letter so I can write but he us a grad and go and I will likely not see him for the better part of a year. I found his sock in the washer and burst out in tears. I am a mess and don't know what to do with myself. I think I will break from tradition for the holidays to see if it makes it easier.

My son left for basic on the 26th of Oct. He was able to call this last Sat to let us know that we would receive a letter to adopt a Sailor for Thanksgiving. We got the form and faxed it in so we will be able to pick him up that morning and take him out for the day. We were very excited. We can pick him up between 8-9 AM and have him back by 8 PM.

WOW ccope! Mine left October 26th also...we also got a call on Saturday...but we were not offered the 'adopt a Sailor for Thanksgiving" Deal :( ! What a great Holiday gift...and something to be Thankful for!!!

Yeah the recruiter told us they stopped the 'adopt a Sailor' :( My oldest son is AirForce and went to basic in October, and he really loved the family he spent his first Thanksgiving and Christmas with.
