For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

You won't find out when his graduation will be until you get his form letter with the date on it about 2 weeks after he leaves for boot camp.. You can roughly guess when it will be by looking 7-9 weeks ahead...most PIR's are on a Friday.
As far as when the insurance kicks in, that I don't know...ask his recruiter. I would think pretty much as soon as he leaves for boot camp. Perhaps someone else on here will be able to answer that one.

The reason to keep him covered until he is a sailor is if anything should happen, or if the more thorough BC medical uncovers a pre-existing condition you had no knowledge of, and he is discharged, they Navy may not cover everything once he is a civilian again. He has to serve 180 days for the VA to cover him as a vet.

FROM ONE PROUD NAVY MOM TO ANOTHER MY DAUGHTER HAS ONLY BEEN THERE FOR 11DAYS AND IN THAT FIRST WEK WAS WROTE HOME WITH HER GRAD DATE AND I WANNA SAY THEY ARE COVERED FROM THE TIME THEY BOARD THE AIRPLANE BUT WITH THAT BEING SAID I STILL HAVE MY BABY COVERED ALSO NOT SURE IF THAT HELPED BUT THATS ALL I KNOW......

Have your son workout and run to get ready for bootcamp. My son did, he loved it. But he did say only 7 Recruits pass the first fitness test and I'm proud to say Mine was one of them. The first two to three weeks is hard. You worry,and wonder what are doing is he alright?They leave with practically nothing. The clothes on his back.They said no cell phones so he left his home. But I later found out that they could take their cell but have to send it home with their personal belongings when they arrive at BC. He didn't want to chance getting lost or broken. You do get to talk to him while he's waiting for his airplane etc. I did miss out on that. A little more time before you hear nothing.
His social security card, 25.00 in cash is what they recommend and a list of phone numbers. They return all their clothes in a box in about two weeks. you get a 15 second call I'm hear safe within 48 hrs. Y and a 1-2 line message from your son.Then you will get a letter from the commander with his ship, # division,# and PIR date which is bootcamp graduation. 8 weeks. Then you can talk to other mothers in the same group. It took 2- 3 weeks to receive the first letter home. Pure bliss. Well PIR is 11/12/10 so I'm learning as I go. This website is truely unbelieveable and has help me thru rough days. Good Luck God bless to you and your SR ( Sailor Recruit). hope this helped.

Your reply was so helpful. You covered everything that I was wondering about. I'm worrying already, and my son hasn't even left yet. He's got the working out and running part covered. He is determined to pass the fitness test. I will keep your SR and your family in my prayers. I'm sure your son will continue to do great.

My son did tell me about the Kid in the Box. Right now is a time of so many mixed emotions. One minute I'm excited and proud and the next all kinds of worries go through my mind. I'm sure it's the same for everyone. It so good to be able to talk to others who understand.
