Hi all,

My son is in DEP... boot camp coming up pretty soon. We cannot get the recruiter to return our calls, or answer our questions. I have a million questions and he simply does not return my calls, or my son't calls. Is the recruiter's job to work with the sailor AND parents in the DEP program? Should I go over recruiter's head and call someone else? I certainly don't want to cause problems for him but I feel as though he is not doing his job. He doesn't provide transportation to DEP meetings; doesn't keep us apprised of meeting information, etc.

I would appreciate some feedback... thank you!

Thanks Marine Navy Mom! He is the only recruiter in our little satellite office... I guess I can find out what the overseeing office is. It's just a bit frustrating. My son does have to check in every Monday... usually just leaves a voice mail for him. Thanks!
It sounds like you need to get a new recruiter !! See if there is an Officer in Charge at that recruiting office and let hime/her know about this situation

Join this group http://www.navyformoms.com/group/deppersinbutnotyet read some of the discussions for good info

There is a group for each month rcts leave "Leavin for Boot Camp in (month they leave)" search groups and join this group...it will have info as well as connect you with other N4M's whose rcts leave that month.

Go to YouTube and search Navy boot camp, racks, graduaton, Battlestations 21 (CNN does it)

Explore this site as well…Forums, Groups and Videos and check out the “Main” tab…lots of good info
hi maybe someone on here can help you with your questions since we have all been through it or you can at least try and we can see if we can help you.
Thanks everyone for the help. I was told by locals that the recruiter provided transportation, and certainly the other parents had spoken with their recruiter several times. I know it will all get worked out. I appreciate the community support!
That's really too bad you are having such a hard time with the recruiter. I have to say, I was quite impressed by my son's recruiter and the recruiting office in general. They did so much for my son, and he is 24! He did have to provide his own transportation to the office for his DEP meetings, but there were times he couldn't get a ride and his recruiter would come get him - and bring him home or to work if necessary. Phone calls were always returned, although I did not have any contact with the recruiter as my son is older and was taking care of everything himself. When I dropped my son off at the recruiting office the day they were taking him to the MEPS station (he went the day before he shipped out to boot camp) and I went in there and was a blubbering crying mess and all the recruiters were so nice to me. One even said, I understand maa'm, my mom did the same thing many years ago when she dropped me off. It was a good experience. You definitely need to try and contact the main recruiting station for your area. I know things can come up for people, but not getting any return calls and your son always having to leave a voice mail, that's just not right. My son's recruiter was a good positive influence on my son and I appreciated him for it. That's what you should be looking for in a recruiter.
If your recruiter is the only one there - he must be very busy. . . . years ago when my husband was a recruiter he was responsible to meet with schools, get the kids to MEPS for testing, get the kids to MEPS for transport to boot camp, meet with the familys, meet with his command for reporting. This is a very demanding job and any support from the families of recruits is very much appreciated. The kids are also given the schedule for the meetings, PRT, etc when they first express interest and are responible for keeping track of this. As far as giving the kids rides to these meeting I would guess that isn't the norm . . . Parents are always welcome to attend the DEP meetings, it will provide you with good information and help prepare your child for what is expected of them before they go to boot camp. This is a great opportunity - support your child and the recruiter!!
