I would like to get all the blocks by the end of March. PM me and I'll send you my address

Delaware moved, I will get it sewed down  then you will get the full affect
Illinios arrived safe and sound!

neat blocks NitaSewBee!  was the astronaut on the moon from New Hampshire?  Just think of all the things we are learing about our states.

I will write something and email it or mail to you Lyn.

Dori, thank you for that verse.  That sure pertains to our troops!  would you be willing to put all 8 verses in the music video thread?

Sue, Actually since I got that from a cloth book I was planning to sew.. it was supposed to be about Neil Armstrong  taking a flag to the moon, But for the  purpose of these squares it signifies  2 of the astronauts killed when the challenger blew up in 1986 after 78 secs from take-off. One of which was the teacher from New Hampshire which a space musuem was named after. This happened  Jan28 1986, 3 days before I gave birth to my Seabee The teacher was Christie McAuliffee, A science teacher from New Hampshire. the moon in the picture has no significance  that I know  of for  this  purpose, I forgot where the Challenger was heading, just that it never  made it. The accident was big news back then since all  8 were private citizens who wanted  to go into space. I wish I had known back in January  that I was going to be helping  on a quilt. There was a great article  in  my Schenectady paper,  about the 25th anniversary of the explosion., about the  legacy that Chrisitie left, and the  fact that  she made a big impact on the citizens  of New Hampshire. This would have been cool to send to Tim. I know this year when I was sending a birthday message to my son, I told  him of my memories  of that day, how sad it was, yet beautiful  for 8  everyday people were given the chance of a life time, and 3 days later  a really special  person  (him) was born. The same day my oldest son turned 25, his aunt turned  65

The Yankee doodle one  is for CT,'s  state song. I thought it  might remind  him of a  childhood song we all know. Actually it's a catchy tune. I thought the bears were kinda cute. It was a toss up between Yankee doodle and the  picture of an elephant I cut from the front of a bib I was going to sew. Connecticut is also where there is a P.T Barnum  Museum. since PT Barnum  was  a leading citizen  of Connecticut

My Delaware one  is off Washington crossing the Delaware river. The boat I made from Holly material. American holly  is the state tree of Delaware. when I think of Delaware, that is the first thing I think of and the fact that Delaware was the 1st state. I didn't know about it being the first state, but somehow Washington crossing the Delaware sticks in your head as a  kid. Of course I am going to write out some  of these thoughts for Tim.

I think I am going to add something to the block for New Hampshire. Their state Motto is" Live free or Die"  Well  one of the pictures in this cloth  book is the statue at Iwo Jima I thought  it signifies that motto quite  nicely,  Also the fact  that  Tim  is a Marine, and that  the statue is located in Japan, I think it makes it special  what do you think?   I think it will add something to my  block, especially since Japan is foremost in the news a lot.  Each day  a lot of men and women lose their lives fighting for the freedoms we hold dear, a lot of lives  were lost recently  and a lot of lives were lost  in the history of the States.  I think a great block  for the center of this quilt would have been Lee Greenwoods song "God Bless The USA"

Nita, what great information for your blocks.  I am sure if you go to the town newspaper archives, you can get a copy of the article.  probably online as well.

I do remember the shuttle exploding in tv.  what a shocking event.    definitely put the NH motto on the square, because that's why Tim is in the hosptial right now.  He took that motto seriously and has made a great sacrifice for us to be able to live that way.

I love the Delaware connection and that holly leaves.  This quilt has been so much fun and I can't wait to see it finished.

Thank you to all who have worked on this quilt.

I have decided that Tim gets to see the quilt first. After that, if he doesn't have his Dad post a picture, then I will. I was hoping to get it to him before I left for Florida, but it looks like it will be shortly after I return. I need to hand quilt it because of the size of the quilt.

Lyn, that absolutely sounds like the right thing to do.  Tim has given so much already, he deserves

"1st sight'.

:)
I so Agree it should go to Tim first..once again thanks so much for including me and putting it together for us...This has been an honor
LL...Did my squares from CA ever show up?
she is out of town for a week or so.
