My brother is stationed in Yokosuka (on base, not on a ship yet). We would like to send him care package for Thanksgiving/Christmas season.
How long (average) does mail take to get there (we live on the East Coast)? Want to make sure we send it out early enough.
Also, are there any special instructions? Or is it is as simple as just going to FedEx and shipping it out?
Appreciate the advice!
Hi navysis - I don't have an answer for you but you might want to pose your question in the Japan group. They are pretty helpful over there.
I do know that the USPS "if it fits, it ships" is probably your best route. You will have to fill out a customs form.
Do not use Fedex. Packages ship best in the mail system via USPS. The priority flat rate boxes are best, and you can get a military care package shipping kit for free on the post office site. A customs form is required. Do read up on what may and may not be mailed, i.e. no cologna, no aerosol shaving cream.
Mail is federal, and the base is set up to handle federal mail, and it is less of a security risk. Commercial package delivery companies not so much, it would be a hassle if the package got there at all.
