Welcome to the Division Discussion for Divisions 087 and 088

These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.

Get to know each other, your SRs are!

Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.

Every single question that is asked is important Every single concern is genuine Every single member is important to us We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.

Hang in there!!!

Just heard from my son 09 087. Darn phone disconnected and just got a few minutes. Devasted my phone cutoff. He did not call back so so sad. 1/4/14

I received a phone call from 847-689-0028; and I couldn't hear anything.  I recognized the area code, so kept saying "Hello."  No answer; and no return phone call.  So disappointed.  Ship 09, Div 088.

I missed a call.  I heard it ring and by the time I got to my phone it stopped.  I could not help but cry.  Then his sister called to let me know that when he didn't reach me he called her.  She said he sounded happy and upbeat and thought they would be able to call again next Friday.  Lets hope so.

I'm so glad he was able to talk to his sister, since he didn't reach you.  But, understand your sadness.  It is so hard to know it is them,  and feel helpless when you miss them (and their hugs, and voice, and having them around).  Hope they call again next week.  I would just love to receive a letter, saying something.  The only time we have talked, it was for 2 minutes...and of course, we Moms need more time!  :)

I got a call from my SR yesterday.  We got to talk for 22 minutes and it was so good to hear his voice.  He said he has been sick, got pink eye and was in medical the last two times they could call.  He is doing well and I am so happy that he is doing so well.  He said that they are really busy and that this next week will be pretty hectic.  They may get to call again on Friday so I will be having that phone glued to me on that day!

Glad you got that call! Is your son a Nuke too?

Cheryll.. if this is to me... No.. he is a Quartermaster.  We have good friends whose son in law is a Nuke.  He just finished his schooling and is stationed back here in WA.

Yes, I was asking you! What is a Quartermaster? I know I could look it up, but I am ready to go to Facebook for Navy Families and see what the question of the week is. Every Tuesday they ask a trivia question and the first person to answer and spell it correctly, gets to have a picture of their Division  .  posted online. I hope that means both Divisions 87 and 88. I intend to win! Just in case though, all you folks like their facebook page and play. I would love, love. love to see their picture posted!

My call came on Saturday nite. About 4 minutes into call my phone hung up. He didn't call back. So devasted he must of been so disappointed after waiting all week to get chance to talk. I was so depressed. I am also very worried about the extreme cold that is hitting that area so hard. Feb 7 can't get here fast enough

It's actually the Facebook called U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command.

I hope you won!  I will see if I can explain Quartermaster correctly.  They navigate and sometimes operate the ship.  They work on the bridge and most work directly with the navigation officer and or captain.  I have heard it is a very good rate, but there are not many of them.  I have heard a few times that there are around 2000 of them in the Navy.  He feels very fortunate to have gotten the rate. they maintain the charts and plot the navigation of the ship.

Colesmom.. I am so sorry you only got 4 minutes.  I know my son said they may get to call again on Friday.

Wow Hurleygirl, it sounds like an amazing job with a lot of responsibility! I did not win the Trivia Tuesday on the U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command contest. It was not posted until after I had to leave and by the time we got home somebody else had already won.

Colesmom, I too am so sorry about the phone call. I missed my son's first call, it went to voice mail just as I answered. I felt horrible! I understand the worry and devastation. I felt guilt, sadness, and worry. He did not call back either.
