OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I did not get to hear from MY SR this past week. I know it is still no news is good news but I am really missing him. This no communication thing is so hard. I keep getting so excited to think we will know in three weeks how all this training has transformed our SR's. I am excited to get to see a wonderful sailor>

Okay Ladies,
It really is time to share. I joined the Navy for Mom's site so that even if my son didn't write much, maybe someone else's would and we could share experiences that were written in our SR's letters or hear about any achievements they accomplished as a division. That way we were all up to speed on what was going on with our SR's. I have three letters and one call. My son always sounds positive in his letters although he sounded a bit homesick on the phone. The letter I got yesterday said it was 4-2 (letter dated on 1/24/12). He said they were doing small arms training and shared that he was doing very well and wasn't worried too much about doing the live fire with actual guns the next day. By now, of course, they should be on 5-2. I heard this referred to as hell week. Not sure why it is called that. I looked up week 5 training schedule, which I have listed below.
5.Week Five - More classes, more training, and a lot more PT. By this point you've learned how to do everything the way the Navy wants you too, and though you may not feel like it -- you've changed. Rigorous training and a restricted diet, a fast paced and active training style in and out of the classroom, and a behavioral structure deeply rooted in forming a team bond between you and up to 100 total strangers have all contributed to your change, and in most cases this change is for the best.
Week 6 is fire fighting and the gas chamber. My husband was a damage controlman so fire fighting was a part of his rate. He said most recruits enjoy learning the fire fighting training because it is a bit more fun or maybe a better word for it would be interesting. He said the gas chamber isn't fun, but is certainly an experience you don't forget.
We are certainly looking forward to seeing our much more grown up son and are already so proud of him. Thinking of graduation in some ways is kind of sad because we miss our SR's so much and look forward to seeing them. At the same time we know that our time with them will be too short and in a blink of the eye they will be off on the next part of their adventure.

ow, thanks, Navy Mom!!
I've only gotten 3 letters & no call - my SR was on "wisdom tooth duty" and missed his call.
He is also up beat and positive, but has never been very forthcoming on the goings on in his life unless I ask him directly.
My last letter was last Wednesday, so I'm hoping for a letter today or tomorrow, as I've asked him specific questions. My son also mentioned about the small arms training & many inspections.
Another thing he mentioned in a prior letter is that they had a very smart group & would probably graduate with honors - which I am so proud and overjoyed about!
I just miss my son like crazy & can't wait to see him & the wonderful change in him.

Thank you for sharing. I love hearing how the other SR's are doing as well as my own. Some of these division groups get so caught up in talking about what is going on with them and less about their SR's. I really miss my son and want to get whatever information I can about him and his division. I try to ask particular questions, but he doesn't always reply to them. Thanks again for sharing.

I receive letters from my son about midweek telling me about how the prior week went. He is having a good time for the most part. He has made several good friends with whom he will be going to Nuke School with. One of them even sent me a gag letter stating my son was not doing well, misses home, it made my stomach sink until the little SR pal wrote, he calls out "I miss my MOM!" in the middle of the night and cries so loud.
My son still has his good sense of humor. He was able to tell me that he would be shipping out that night or morning for "A" school. We will just have the few hours after PIR and then he is gone again. He was bummed and hoped he could come home first. I am sort of glad he is getting started right away and I know where he will be for the next 2 years.

We got 3 letters this week one on Tusday and 2 to day. They are getting ready for Firefighting week. Close to my heart as I was a Damage Controlman in the Navy back in the 90's. He said that the food is really good and they missed getting the Marching flag. That is about all My son said he said he is looking foward to BS21 which could be next week or the final week we will get the I am a salior call then.

Ship 12 Div 73 keep your phones on at the end of the week. Wednesday should start BS21 for our PIR date so we could possibly get the I am a Sailor by Thursday.

My son is 12/074, but from what I have heard, 073 & 074 will go thru BS at the same time. I'm always searching the other Division's discussions for info so glad for the BS update. Pretty sure he will call his wife, but hoping he can get in an extra quick call to Mom & Dad. Personally, I kind of think Dad needs to get the call because he is following in his footsteps. Don't care, as long as someone hears from him. Cheers!

Remember this is a suprise evolution for the recuits. They can pull it on them at anytime. To get through all the division they will need to start on Wednesday or Thursday. If they are doing 2 Division at a time it may be the begining of next week. In any event they are nearing the end of of there training and should have them completed prior to next Wednesday.

How funny! I got a letter last week that was the same.... No date, which is really unusual. I guess they weren't allowed to be specific for BS21. I'm so excited now that it is ticking down to the wire that I can just about stand it!!!
