Got our letter today.  So happy to see my son's writing on that envelope.  Now just waiting for the first letter from him. Just thought I would start a place for discussions for all the love ones of those in Ship 7 Div 259 and Div 260.

OcoeeMom I booked at Residence Inn a few hours after we got the letter.  I had been reading what some others on the "PIR reference information" group had mentioned stating it has great for those needing the extra space.  I wanted to have beds in different rooms because my son's girlfriend will be with us. More expensive but worth it for us.

I just got my form letter today, my son is ship 7 division 260. I am so excited about hearing from him even this little smidgen of proof he is still fine. Sounds like I should start getting my travel plans finalized. I had thought about staying at the Ramada because there was something about a meet and greet reception in the pamphlet I got with the letter, plus it didn't sound too far and sounds really nice. My son's girlfriend and I are the only two that can make it to PIR so I just need the one room. It sounds like a lot of people will be there that day I am really excited.

Hey! My boyfriend left June 25th and his PIR date is surprisingly August 17. He's on ship 7, division 259. I really hope I can go to his graduation (I would be the only one going). :( I'm just terrified of flying alone, and trying to set up hotel reservations..I'm just pretty lost right now. I'm only 22, so I don't think I could rent a car, especially out of state. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi dukelvr,

Where are you coming from? By your username, I am assuming North Carolina? I know it has to be hard being the only one that will be attending. Have you thought about calling his recruiter to find out if anyone from the area left at the same time for Boot Camp? Maybe someone from your area is going and you can contact them?

We are coming from Arizona.

I wish you the best!

Yeah, I'm in North Carolina. How do I go about contacting his recruiter? I'm not sure who it is (I guess that's probably a stupid question). I just know I can't afford to fly, stay in a hotel, and doing everything alone. I'm just really bummed right now. I told his mom I would split the cost of the hotel, renting a car and everything, but she can't go..and I know I can't do it alone.

Hi everyone... I got the letter last Saturday. We immediately made reservations at the Holiday Inn and Suites- I was able to get two rooms for Thursday night but only one room for Friday night. Urgh. We made the second Friday night reservation at the Hampton Inn.

Initially when I opened the letter, I was bummed because I was hoping for just a little note or something and didn't see anything. A little while later I went back and looked closer and he had written in TINY letters on the inside flap, "Hi, I miss U!. That was the sweetest thing I have ever been told because I know he meant it! ha ha.

I hope all of you are doing well...

Aw GoNavy, you made me tear up again.  How sweet.

GoNavy, that is such a sweet thing for your son to do. I drank in the sight of my son's handwritting wherever it was on the form letter wishing for more. My mom laughs at me because I cry and do stupid things like that, but oh well he is my baby and I will do what I want.

I just got done reserving my hotel (I'm staying at the Ramada Inn, it was close and has a meet and greet so maybe I can meet some other parents) my plane tickets are ordered and my car is reserved. Now I just sit and keep my fingers crossed nothing changes :).

everyone please keep coming to this page. There are moms and other members who don't "do" facebook and they will be looking for support here. Some of them are here just reading posts who are too shy to post anything their selves so they rely on what they read here to get them through this experience. If you want some great facebook groups here are the ones I have seen the most activity on. Also remember some group are closed and some are not. You should never post any private info or ship movement, Sailor travel details on any page or group no matter if it is private, closed or open. Always be safe and keep your Sailor safe.

Have any of you received a "real" letter yet?  I was hoping for one this week but  nothing yet.  My young man better write.  The past 2 days have been so tough.  I had done well until the 4th and for some reason I have fought tears every since Wednesday.

Marcs Mom, my son is in 259.  I just read on the main page of this group stating that is weekend will probably be their first chance to write.  That makes me feel a little better.

Yeah, I haven't received a letter or a phone call yet :( What day did he get there? My boyfriend didn't arrive at Great Lakes until June 25th, really surprised his PIR is the 17th of August. I hope all the information is correct because we just booked our hotel and flight!!
