I got my letter this week end and what a welcome sight that was in the mail box. I think it actually took me a minute or two to pick it up. lol  I think I was in shock I was already getting information from my son. I spent the rest of the night on line trying to get the best deal on flights and writing letters to my son. I'm looking forward to chatting with all the wonderful ladies on this site. I think it will make this adjustment that much easier for me.

yeah. i'm living with my in laws untill my husband is done with boot camp and then the boys and i get to move to goose creek, sc with him while he's going to school. so i'm really looking forward to PIR. lol. i'm so grateful to have my in laws around to help me out when i need it.
Oh yeah, I have googled GL everyday since I got my letter. By the time PIR comes, I should know GL better than I know my home town. lol When I say 9-24 it seems so close but when I look on the calendar it looks so far away!!
oh dear....i did the SAME THING!!! google-mapped the area MANY times. i justified it by telling myself 'i am a lover of maps'...and i truly am. i can look at a Rand McNally book of maps for hours. but in actuality, i googled GL so make NO mistake i'm getting there the fastest way possible!!! LOL so we won't cry...
lol....that's funny. I'm a nervous wreck about driving in GL. I hear a lot about how bad the traffic is. I don't live in a small town but it's not big my any means either and my night vision.......bad. I just keep looking for the closest hotel to BC that has a swimming pool for my younger son. It will all be worth it in the end no matter how bad traffic is I WILL be there. lol
husband looking into flights to O'Hare but we are considering driving the 9½ hours. thankfully husband is a great driver...however i am not a good passenger in heavy traffic!! and it's all about timing for us. we have a disabled daughter that will stay with Grandmaw. my sister is coming to stay with the both of them as i never leave either one of them for too long. at least that is the plan for now.
We are going to fly into Milwaukee since they say the traffic with construction is bad around Chicago. We made a reservation at the Courtyard Chicago Waukegan/Gurnee. It is one exit away from the base.
i too am wanting to fly into O'Hare. i'm going to PIR alone so i'm a little nervous about it. i'm leaving the boys with my in laws. i've flown alone but i've always had someone there to pick me up at the airport. so this is going to be a whole new experience for me...
Wow, 9 1/2 hour drive & that's probably in good traffic huh? Traffic has me a littel nervous as well. I avoid the freeway here at all costs but somehow I think when I get to GL I may not have a choice. eeeeekkkk. lol How very sweet of your sister to come stay to help out. Gotta love our sisters. I'm taking my 10 year old son and he is so excited (1) to fly (2) to get out of Idaho (3) to see one of his big brothers graduate BC. I really wish I could get a picture of him when we take off in the plane. That would be a keeper I'm sure. lol
will this be the 10 yr. old's first flight? if so, do tell the ticket agent, flight attendant or whoever will listen and he might get a set of wings to commemorate his first flight. our son was invited into the cockpit but that was waaaay before 9-11. the 9½ hours drive time with NORMAL people would probably put us in the Chicago area...but having a bladder the size of a walnut...mercy it might take us days to get there....LOL oh and the interstate/freeway here...full of LUNATICS!!! still don't have confirmation that sister will come to stay with mother and daughter...she is out of her office this week and can not connect to her calendar remotely. keeping my fingers crossed!!!!
I don't travel much, infact I have only flow twice as an adult and that's only because the company paid for it. lol This was my sons first flight to BC also and he's 18. So yeah, my 10 year old is pretty excited. I have a 20 year old who's nver been near a plane. I'm pretty excited, although my excitement has nothing to do with flying. lol Well I really hope your sister will be able to stay and help you mother & daughter out while you are away. I will keep my fingers crossed for you for sure. :)
I haven't flown in years. In the past I would some times go on business trips with my husband. He has flown a LOT. I would LOVE to take the train to graduation. i checked out Amtrak and then there is a local train that goes straight to the Navy Base. the train stations in Chicago are only a block from each other. if our son stays there for A school it would be the safest and more affordable way for him to come home. can you believe my daddy worked for over 30 years for the railroad and i have NEVER been on a train!!!! yes please keep those fingers crossed that sister can come up and take care of Momma and Sissy!!!
Train would be neat. How long would it take to get there by train if it takes 9 1/2 hrs to drive? I've always wanted to ride a train. That's great that the train goes right to the base. That's funny that your daddy worked 30 years for R/R but you have never been on one. lol Isn't that how it works though...marry a mechanic and you have to take your car in to get it fixed. lol Growing up though I know we were never allowed to "go to daddy's work". Things have changed so much since I was a little girl.
My fingers are crossed for you now.
