In reality it is such a small world we live in.....My daughter leaves for boot camp in 9 days. I met with her recruiter yesterday in Plover, WI.   During our discussion, he mentioned that there was a website for moms.  I said, "I already found it!"  The recruiter then told me how his mom had such a hard time when he left and that she's now an administrator on this site.

So I just wanted to give a shout out to Eric's mom and let her know how impressed I was by her sailor. I know that the Navy was putting their best foot forward in the presentation he gave us, but it started with you mom and you did a superb job!

I still have alot of mixed emotions about her leaving.  I know she's doing this to better herself and I respect that.  But as we're winding down these last 9 days I have alot of regrets and selfish feelings mixed with enormous pride and it's making me an emotional mess.  So I'm glad she's got her recruiter to answer her questions and I'm glad that Eric's mom is here to help me get through my side of it...

Hi 4senuff...I was just browsing around here and read your post. I fully understand how you are feeling. My daughter left for bootcamp on 3/23. When she first told me in October, I was quite taken back with this decision. After absorbing this for about a month, I realized how many opportunities the Navy could provide for her. I threw her a surprise going away party about 2 weeks before she left, and that is when it really hit me that she was leaving. And then the day before she left, we have family come by to say goodbye and I was a mess. It all became real when I got the "I'm here" call on the 23rd. But now I am just so proud of her. Her last letter said that she will get her first call on the 19th and that she is going to call me cell. I can't wait to hear her voice. In reading her letters, I can tell how much she has grown in these few weeks.

I am not going to say that it will be easy letting her go, but I can tell you that it does get better each day. Getting the Kid in a Box can be difficult, but then you get the form letter with her address and a little blurb from your daughter on the bottom, and it will make your heart sing. My husband said I looked like a little kid in a candy store when I got it. I was actually jumping up and down with joy.

There is no right way or wrong way to react to a child going off to bootcamp. Let the floodgates open if they have to. When you are feeling, down, come to N4M and trust me, it will absolutely make you feel better. Even if you just read the other mom's posts, they always lifted me up.

Just make sure you let your daughter know how much you love her and support her decision and all will go fine.
Take care and god bless.
Hi 4senuff

Eric is also my kid's recruiter!! I have twins that are leaving for BC this year. I agree with you Eric is great. He has done a great job with my kids and always has done his best to keep us informed of changes and new things. He was the first person to tell about this site. It's full of great info. Good luck to your daughter and your family
