My son was set to graduate on 2/17 and he called earlier to say that he failed on of his final tests and won't be graduating next week afterall. He has been moved to a new division. What does this mean for him? How often will he get to retest? I am so heartbroken for him. I feel like we have been kicked in the chest.....

Don't sweat it. My son was going through Officer Candidate School and he didn't pass his Room, Locker Personnel Inspection. He was lousy at shining his shoes and threads were always coming out of the seams in his trousers. He had never shined a pair of shoes before and never done any ironing. He missed it by one bleeping point. He was rolled back two weeks. He was royally pissed. With the next class, he found some prior enlisted guys who were having problems with the math/science stuff. He tutored them - they did his shoe shining and laundry. It was a good thing; otherwise, he would still be at OCS. That was 5 years ago. My sailor will be finishing his commitment to the Navy next month. You journey is just beginning. This is no big deal. Please tell him.
Good luck.
They move him and depending on what test he will get a couple more chances to pass. They arent going to give him like weeks, Once he does they will move him right to A-school. He wont have a PIR ceremony. They will work with him and help him however they can. You still aren't going to hear from him unless another problem comes up. Try to stay positive.
Here is the link to your PIR group...there may be some others on here whose recruits are struggling and can offer you support. http://www.navyformoms.com/group/pir02172012 Like Bunker and Denise said...don't sweat it and stay positive. Often the recruits are struggling with the last tests and are told they won't graduate but frequently they do pass in time and DO graduate with their division. There are quite a few who don't pass in time and then will go straight to A school w/o participating in PIR...as long as they pass is what matters.
Friending you...
