Just a little piece of advice.  When reserving a hotel, pay the extra $20-$30 for the late cancellation option.  My son was to ship out of Columbus on 8/16.  We reserved a room at the Crown Plaza Columbus North in Ohio.  I found out at 10:30 on 8/15 he is shipping out of Cleveland (3 hours north of Columbus).  I attempted to cancel my $115.00 reservation so we could stay in Cleveland and they REFUSED to help me because I didn't pay the extra for the cancellation option. The GM in Columbus was overly rude to me.  He asked me if I bought a lottery ticket at the gas station and didn't win, would I take it back and complain?  I explained what my son was doing and why we were even coming there and asked for mercy and he said " Yeah, that's nice but it's not my problem now is it?"  GRRRR...

I gave them a bad review online with the details.  But wanted to pass this information on to you other moms..  Pay the extra $20-$30 because you never know what will happen..

Call the GM back at the Crown Plaza and tell him that you have posted a comment on a site with 50,000+ members. Better yet, call the headquarters and complain. Ask them to reconsider (of course, you should offer to pay for the cancellation fee).
Did That at the corporate level.  Explained what my son was doing and why we were even there,  They did not care.  Also, we got to Cleveland and some of my son's paperwork is missing.  I called his recruiter and told him he better fix this.  It's been a very emotional roller coaster today and he is supposed to ship out tomorrow.  Now they are saying it may be after the 1st of the year potentially.  My son feels totally insignificant by all this..  I am ticked..
Also post on trip advisor.  I always check their site before any trips, and with a son in the military if I saw a review about the response you got from management, I would not stay at this hotel.  I hope you will get an apology.  Good luck to your son.  We also had a snafu on my son's ship date (he was shipping out of New Orleans).  They gave him a new ship date - 3 weeks from the original date.  After some calls from my husband (we had meet the recruiter, but stayed out of the decision making and let him (son) do it all on his own) he ended up going a week late.  Hope everything works out for him!!

Its so hard to just stay out of it when you're used to fixing everything for your son but I have had to step back and let him handle it (other than my one call to the recruiter).  We are meeting him at the MEP's station today for his physical and other misc things and then the Oath of enlistment.  Providing this all works out with the paperwork.  He will be so upset if he has to wait to go.  Thanks for your reply.  Oh and I did go to Trip Advisor and post a bad review,  I need to see if it posted,  It was to the Crown Plaza Columbus North,

Is this his first trip to MEPS?  if that is the case...he won't be leaving for months.

Not sure why you where reserving a hotel room it is the recruiter who sets up your child with a hotel room for MEPS.

This was his first trip to MEPS but they got him out the next day.  Thanks Be To God!  The recruiter reserved him a room but we also reserved a room at the hotel because after signing in at 1:30 he had the remainder of the of day to do whatever he wanted.  We wanted to be there for him.  To keep him company, share time together, eat together etc.  His dad and I divorced 6  years ago but we brought our extended families together and we spent the entire next two days with my son.  It was about him and NOT US!  It meant a lot to my son and I hope other divorced families read this.  We have to put our differences aside and be there for our SR's.  They are what really matters..
Hooyah to you, Vicki B!
The same thing happened to us at the Comfort Inn.  We found out our son was being medically discharged at the last minute and tried to cancel the room.  They wanted to charge one night for late cancellation.  I called our credit card company and put a dispute on the charge.  We were never told of a late cancellation policy nor did we sign or agree to anything.  They were very rude and didn't care either of our situation.  Our credit card company is taking care of this for us.
