First off......do not panic! You have come to the right place to get all your fears and questions taken care of. We have all, and I mean ALL, been there and done that. My son has been in for 2 years and I still miss him and remember the feelings I had while he was in boot camp. Make sure you go to the Bootcamp Forum and as soon as you learn what division he's in you'll be able to connect with moms who have sons in the same division. Check on the groups and find a group for your state, or for the job your son will be doing. There's a huge amount of info out there and hundreds of us who can answer all your questions. Welcome to the crazy ride known as N4M!
There is a great group for new moms on this site. Join it and they will give you tons of support and explainations.

I am not a mom- lol i will say that right up front. but i came to this website originally to find support for my mommy before I left for boot camp. I'm am not sure if you are intered in what i have to say as a almost fresh out of boot camp sailor or not but here it is. DO NOT SWEAT IT. He will be fine I promise you. The navy takes care of their own. Some advice for you to give him. . .
1.) do not try to joke with the RDC (recruit divsion commanders) they aren't their to be his friend they are their to train him.
2.) do NOT talk unless he has specifically been told he can
3.) There will be drama and fighting and macho bull poop - ignore it- it is NOT worth his career in the navy
4.) do not do anything until he is told to do it- this get a lot of recruits in trouble, the navy is very specific on how they want things done. so things like stamping his gear tell him to wait till he is told to do so

I am telling you this now. He will be fine, you have nothing to worry about. I passed boot camp and am currently in A school. If I could do it so can he. You just remember your sailor is being taken care of, you'll start noticing a change in him when you get the second phone call. Just make sure he kows your proud and that you love him. Thats what helped me the most. Every time I picked up the phone and called my mommy, the first words out of her mouth were I love you and I am so proud of you. Start writing him now and then as soon as you get his address you can send him a bunch of mail all at once. I know you have probably heard by now that mail is like gold in boot camp- it really is. Your future sailor will be able to look forward to chow three times a day mail call and taps. Just remember to keep your head on straight. Belive me the time will fly for both of you. it'll be okay.

Wow, thank you Scarlett, My son doesn't leave until October and you have already helped me. You are super nice to reply here and give us all advice from someone who has been there and done that. I will be sure and tell my son what you said. Kathy
Dear Kimberly, hang in there and check out the deppers leaving in May group. My son doesn't leave until October but I can imagine how you are feeling. A friend of mine has a son also leaving on 5-17 from San Antonio, TX. I don't think she has signed up here yet but she is going to and I am sure you can help each other. This is a great place. Kathy

Dear kathy tell your friend to sign up on NFM its a very helpful sight , it really helps to be in touch with other moms going through the same exact thing , we can relate to eachother tell her to look for me on here so we can talk (our sons may very well be together in the same division ):) thanks again kathy for all your help hope to keep in touch :) kimberly (anthonys mom
I know how you feel but it will be okay...My son went through it last year and like you I was proud but sad to see him leave. I can hardly believe that he is in the Navy and now he is in Key West which is great...It will be a few weeks before you hear from him but he is in great hands and they take very good care of them...My son graduated last year and I got to see it...so if you can go...you should it is amazing how much they accomplish and how much they change...over such a short time....
