My son just called and said he found out when stand down is. Any suggestions from peeps in the know as far as purchasing tickets to fly home...airlines that offer military discounts...who is the best airline to fly with? (Can't imagine flying over the holidays:/ Would love to hear from you!

Ooh, when? There has been much speculation.
Which airline depends on which ones fly into your area. Military discounts aren't always that great, can he check with base travel? He still has to pay for it, but they can be very useful. Do not book anything before noon of the first day off, there are hundreds of sailors checking out and it is a zoo. They close some of the barracks, so it gets crazy. Get him back a day before his check in. Winter travel gets unreliable.
My daughter hasn't gone through her PIR yet (it's 9/14) but she will attending A School at GL. Will she get the same stand down time or could it be different? Oh and when is it? Just wondering so we can be prepared for her homecoming.
All the schools at Glakes will have the same dates. That is why it is such a zoo during checkout. They don't just get up and go, they must check out and get their leave papers, in some cases, have their room inspected and closed up.
If they do not have enough leave on the books, they can borrow a few days ahead. Since they don't get to take leave again for a while, they earn it back before they need it again.
My SR is in BC now and PIR 9/14/12. A-school is in GL. How much leave will he have?
Christy, What are the dates for stand down? He is at Great Lakes correct? My son is there as well, but I haven't heard anything yet, so was just wondering.
Christy, Thanks! I am very much looking forward to having him home for the Holidays!!!!
what are the dates of stand down? nevermind...I see it above...thank you!
Those dates are not offical yet, meaning the CO hasn't signed the paper work stating those will be the dates.
