Okay, I've seen the form for "Adopt a Sailor 2011" and I think the program is incredible but I want to adopt my son, the sailor, for the day because we have family that lives within 45 minutes of GL.  I would happily bring home a couple additional ones too!  Does anyone know how to accomplish this or what form to fill out??

I've posted this question in several areas on this site.

I've had people tell me my son would not qualify to leave base.

I've had people tell me to fill out the form that is posted on here and mail it in right away.

I've had people tell me to call, and not to call.

The form posted is not to be used to get SRs out of BC at GL, the recruit must send you the form to fill out and these forms won't be mailed until the 24th of October.

And my son is in one of the PIR's that is allowed to leave.

I've received so much misinformation it's been pretty frustrating.  Some of the information I've received has been incorrect from sources that should have well... known better (not you).

In no way did I mean to insult you.  I am only one week into this and I didn't know what RTC was and then when I tried to find the facebook page I couldn't so I was really scared I'd mess up and file the wrong form or do something wrong all together and miss this opportunity.

Sorry for the confusion, not offence intended.  Now I have the FB page and I'm now on the "right" page.

Oh, sorry RTC=Recruit Training Command. We use RTC and BC (Boot Camp) on here a lot,  BC is held at the RTC.

I often put clickable links within my posts, but I need to realize that not everyone will realize that those are links.  I will try to remember to note that the links can be clicked.

I'm sorry that I steered you in the wrong direction at first because I thought that Denise's post was for Recruits and did not know that the form she posted was for Sailors at A School--perhaps she didn't either based on her replies to you.  If I had read through the form, I would have realized that it was for those across the street because the pick up point is the Naval Museum, which is located on the Naval Station and not the RTC.  It is never my intention to put out bad information and I apologize again for the part I played in your confusion.

Like I said before, let your son know that you want to adopt him (that sounds so strange) and maybe a buddy or two when you write to him and let him know you are looking forward to getting the form from him.  Then be sure that you get that form sent in to the RTC that that they get it by the Nov. 21 deadline.

Hi, I just wanted to "Thank" all the families that adopt a
sailor this Thanksgiving. My daughter just finished "A" school and is still in Great Lakes. My family and I live in CA. She will be adopted for Thanksgiving. So from the bottom of my heart thank you :D. I know she is looking forward to it. <3
