The USS Abraham Lincoln will be deployed for Christmas and has given approval for the ship to receive pillowcases while on deployment.   That will be 5,000 or more strong.

The main postings for this project will be in the Lincoln group under the thread called "The Lincoln Family Love Pillowcase Project".

I will update here as well so you don't have to join the Lincoln group.

Let us know what you can do to help us get the ship done!

Actually, I am waiting to hear from Donna about doing that theme for her daughter's unit in July. I have 9 Christmas themed ones done. So I think that might go.

I emailed the firefighter.
Sue, I assume you are going to do your sailor's squadron for incorporation with the Lincoln doing the overall ship in December? Or are you going to do his squadron sooner than Christmas? I'll hold aside any PCs I have that may be holiday-ish. When the fall semester starts and the school's begin their service projects again, I will ask that they try to do some holiday-ish pillowcases, in preparation, along with the usual military fabrics.
I will email Steph today and ask her to either put a chit through or talk to her immediate about the pillowcases. I'll get back to you as soon as she contacts me - it might take a while since they're busy readying to deploy. Thanks ladies - I appreciate the help.

Oh and good news - it looks like dh might have a job - need your prayers please! :-)
Donna that is good news for your DH - prayers requested!
DonnaP, Praying your husband will get the job. :)
Just heard from Steph - her YN1 will be giving her a final count. I've also told her to make sure we have permission and explained why.
As for the Christmas pillowcases for the other group - I do have some material for Christmas pillowcases (if pieced is ok) and will be starting on them in between my other projects.
Donna, praying for your husband! great news!

Pieced is definitely okay, but 1 side only. Make the other side a solid so they have 1 side without seams. I like to make those, but they take more time.

We probably would do her unit in August realistically and we can do any theme or a Christmas one. We need to finish Ft Hood first. Are you able to help with that unit?

Michele, I will do my son's squadron when the rest of the Lincoln mails theirs. I will say this, unless alot more people get involved there, I am still not sure that it will fly. And school groups would be wonderful!

also, I have been reviewing my life and numbers haha! always a good thing to do. I can't realistically make 250 by myself for his squadron, so will enlist the aid of HAE.
Here's my plan: Kim and I each have sons serving on the ship. We'll do those first, then college friend, then medical. And even if the Lincoln projec for the whole ship doesn't work, I think Kim and I would still like to do our son's squadrons.

I've said before and I'll say again, I don't want anyone stressed over this, including me. I did start a Lincoln box today with some pcs that came from a Joe's sister yesterday.
Sue, I didn't realize that Kim also had a son on the Lincoln. I like the idea of the two squadrons having priority. As you say, even if the whole ship doesn't work, there is logic to doing the two squadrons.

Donna, I am definitely keeping your DH in my prayers for success in his job hunt! I know that would make life so much easier.

Also, I make many pieced pillowcases. I have a big stack of pillowcases that were too small. The only way to make them the right size is to piece. As Sue says, I piece one side and keep the other side plain. Also, sometimes the material is too narrow and a strip needs to be added. I only add it to one side.
thank you all for the help with the Lincoln. Yeah, Kim's son is in a helo squadron and mine is an airwing. We'll do them first.

I cut out 5 pcs for Ft Hood this am. need to go sew them. they are the whole piece of fabric, casue I want to stuff as many into that box as I can ME. I'll let you know how many I actually mail on Thursday.
Since they're getting ready to deploy, it may take awhile to get the numbers for you. Perhaps un-themed (is that a word? LOL!) would be best - just to keep things easier. Steph is waiting for the breakdown and complete total.
yep that's good. just let us know and then we can set a time frame
Please, no stressing about this. I have started a box for my son's squadron and do believe that I can get enough from Tucson to fill it. Any sewing that I do for the next couple of months will be for that squadron.

Cathy, you can make the Longhorns or send me the fabric, whichever works for you. And I am going to clean the slate of the all the old comments. well when I have time. I'll leave any that might pertain.
