this is exciting!  and I wrote back and said OF COURSE!

Dear Heads at Ease,

Thank you for the pillow cases you send to our ship. We really do appreciate the touch of home and color that it gives to our normally white sheets, pillow cases.  In fact I am part of the media team aboard Boxer and we would like to write a short article about the pillow cases and support/care we received from your organization.  Could we write you back with questions for our story?

This is awesome,

Dear Sir or Mam, Orchard Mesa Baptist Church,

I would like to say thank you for the pillow cases you sent to me, as well as my fellow brothers and sisters on the USS BOXER. I am serving in the US Navy at a helicopter squadron from San Diego, CA. We are HSC-21 Blackjacks. We are sent from our squadron to be assigned with the Boxer with 2 MH-60S Nighthawk helicopters.  We Provide 8 pilots, 8 rescue swimmers/door gunners, and 20 maintenance workers with the aircraft. I personally am a search and rescue swimmer as well as helicopter aerial door gunner. I am from  Iowa. I joined the navy in 2004 and working towards the big 20 years of service. Im 31 years young and love my job. Can I call it a job if I love it this much? Thank you again from the top and bottom of my heart for taking the time to put me at ease with your quality pillowcases made with love. I tried to get 2 of them but figured I should share. ;). God bless and Very Respectfully, Tedd -AWS2-United States Navy.

PS, attatched is a photo of myself in the helicopter over our ship in the pacific ocean. Cheers!

YIKES, I am glad that he only took 1!  I did explain that we only send enough for 1 per person.

Boxer Sailors, Marines Receive a 'Touch of Home'

USS BOXER, At Sea (NNS) -- Sailors and Marines aboard amphibious assault ship USS Boxer (LHD 4) received a shipment of handmade pillowcases from the Heads at Ease organization as a new accessory to brighten their living spaces Oct. 1.

"I call them a permanent hug or a touch of home," said Sue Lamberson, founder and chief executive officer of HAE. "It's to bring comfort to our deployed troops and to let them know that the people of the USA have their backs."

Lamberson said she began the organization in June 2008 as a way to show support for her son, who was in the Navy. Her plan was just to make a few. As of Sept. 30, HAE has made and mailed 36,443 pieces throughout all branches of the military.

"It's nice to know others are taking the time out to serve the Armed Forces while we do our part to serve our country," said Cmdr. Joel S. Morton, chaplain aboard Boxer.

For some Sailors, they were able to find a pillowcase that reflected their personality.

"I spotted the pillowcase I wanted right away," said Aviation Boatswain's Mate 3rd Class (AW) James Vickers, who received a pillowcase designed with tractor print. "It was really cool to see all the different designs we were able to choose from."

Lamberson said she is grateful for all of the volunteers who have donated money or have sewn pillowcases.

"I really appreciated the gesture," added Vickers. "It also lifts the spirits of the people who don't usually receive mail at all."

Once finished with Boxer, Lamberson said she is planning on shipping pillowcases to the other deployed ships of the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group and continuing her projects as long as she has the help and deployed troops.

Boxer is currently deployed in the U.S. 7th Fleet Area of Responsibility conducting maritime security operations and theatre security cooperation efforts as part of the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group.

How cool, Sue! The U.S. Navy photos of the day also included a picture from the USS Boxer today. One of the moms from the rescue swimmer site has a son on this ship so it was an added bonus to think that maybe one of my pillowcases ended up with him!

That is a fun thought Jodi!  Thank you notes are coming in and here is another one for Nancy B's group from her church:

Good Evening,

My name is Aaron  and I am a Second Class Petty Officer stationed onboard the USS Boxer and this is my 4th Deployment. I also am Baptist, coming from Collins Baptist Church in Southeast Arkansas. I can’t express how much your heartfelt gift is appreciated and what it means to know that there are people out there praying for us and our safety. It’s amazing how something as simple as a handmade pillow case can really make someone feel loved and connected to back home. The style  and color variety of your pillow cases are a nice change when looking across our berthing spaces compared to the all white linens and Navy gray wool blanket, hahah!  Again thank you so much for your sincere act of kindness and may God bless you all.

here's a fun one and she sent the photo from the ship's newsletter.  LOVE it.

Good Afternoon,

My name is AS3 Nxxxx and I am stationed on the USS BOXER. We recently received a wonderful package in the mail with beautifully stitched and made with love, pillow cases in it. I just wanted to say thank you and let you know how wonderful it is to know that we are still thought about at home while we are so many miles away. It brought a smile to every one of my shipmates and my faces to get to pick one out. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

 Very Respectfully,  AS3 Stacey  AIMD/IM04

I wrote back and this is her response:

Ms. Lamerson,
Thank you for enlightening me on your amazing company and your family as well. Please tell your son "Thank You" for all he did while he served. If it wasn't for brave men like your son that had come before me, I wouldn't be able to do what I do now.
I have been married for 8 years now and can honestly say that this deployment has been the hardest thing I have ever done. It's like the movie "Groundhog's Day" with bill Murray. It’s the same thing every day but little details change. But I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. It has been such an eye opener for me and has definitely gotten me out my shell. Before I joined the navy, my husband also served. He was a marine from 2002 to 2007. I remember him asking me for a "fun" piloowcase, and thinking "what for". Little did I know that I now understand how much that little piece of home can make such a big deal. I got a turquoise one with paisley print butterflies on it. I love going back to my rack after a LONG night of work to see it waiting for me to relax and fall asleep on.
I don't know if you have received a picture yet, but I attached the one that was posted in the ships newspaper. They are shipmates of mine that work in our AIR department. Everyone is enjoying their pillow cases, that’s for sure. There is not a single white pillowcase on a single rack right now. It's makes our birthing that much more enjoyable.
Thank you again for thinking of us while we are on deployment.

V/R,
AS3 Stacey

OMG! that's my Son! On the far right, just behind the female sailor holding the bundle of pillow cases!  What a wonderful group of smiles!!!  Thank you so much for sharing the picture! I started crying when I saw him!!!

-Dawn

How cool that he's in there. Is he the one between her head and the cards?

Yes, Jodi!  He is!!  I love that half smile of his!

I love that you see your son!  Such an unexpected blessing!  I"ll have you know that the cards he is holding were made by some kids in the elementary school I work in.  I have 2 jobs there and in my afternoon job, the kids made those cards.

PCs were sent by Nancy B and her quilting group out of CO:

Thank you so much for taking the time to make so many different pillow cases. It’s nice to have a bit of personalization in a sleeping space full of uniformity. It really is all about the little things out here.

Respectfully, AS3 Jeremy   USS BOXER, USN

Wow! That's pretty exciting. I'm born and raised out of Tucson, AZ! I graduated from Rincon. The pillow case I picked is sort bage with a green stripe around the top. There is a leaf/ snowflake type of design on it. This will be my second deployment and it seems to be dragging much slower than the last but I know it's worth it in the end.  Tell your son I said thank you for standing the watch, and good luck with the baby. Thanks again Sue.

-Jeremy

ANOTHER one:

Good Morning,

I am currently deployed and received a pillow case from headsatease. I have been in the military four years and before my military career started, I had no idea the amount of support we have. I have much gratitude to give for the many people who have showed us kindness, even when situations get rough. I have also learned how patriotic Texans are, which makes me proud to say I am a TEXAN. Thank you for all you do.

Respectfully,

Cpl Nestor
