Hi everyone! So after the hassles of booking the plane tickets, hotel & car, I am finally onto the good stuff!! I'm planning things to do/see with my sailor after, PIR, and just wanted to know what everyone else had planned.  Also, anyone else who has already gone through this, please share what you did with your sailor.  Since my sailor is in DIV 123, he is leaving the day after PIR, but I don't know the exact time, so I'm planning on making two different plans; one plan is for if he leaves early saturday morning, and the other is if he gets to leave later in the day.  I'm hoping this will help to utilize our time more wisely (i'm obsessing wayy too much over this! haha)
I also have a question, I want to add the Navy Pier to my list, but is it worth the hour or so drive? and will we have enough time to enjoy it?
PLEASE!, any and all comments are welcomed!!

yeah i was kind of skeptical about that, in case he was too tired and just wanted to rest. but he called me yesterday and told me he didn't want to stay in after, he wanted to go out. but thanks for your response though! =]
p.s. i'm his girlfriend haha. just to clarify.
We are on our way home after spending the weekend with our new sailor. He did want to spend some time just hanging out. He also wanted to ride into Chicago since we were so close. We rode around for awhile just looking at the city and then we went to the Shedd Aquarium. That was nice...but gets a bit expensive...it was $16.00 to park and then $26 a piece for admission. Our son got in free with his military ID. Lots of places give them discounts, especially if you ask. We drove by the Navy Pier but they wanted $24 to park so we didn't go there. It was also real cold. We parked in another parking garage and walked around a bit. We ended up eating at the original Unos. It was a bit crowded, but fun to be able to say we were there. We also considered eating at the Weber Grill resturant, but they mostly had hamburgers for lunch and my son was looking for something else. Be very aware of their curfews and be sure to plan accordingly. Hope that helps a little.
aw, congratulations! the original Uno's sounds kinda fun =] and thanks for the tip about the military discount for him! and yes it did help me thank you!
For Friday if he's into some "different" stuff you may want to consider Medieval Times. It's a "dinner theater" featuring a knight's joust, some amazing feats of horsemanship (spearing tiny rings with a lance while riding at a gallop) and a "medieval feast." It's like an indoor Renaissance Festival. They also have a bunch of fun activities to do in their "lobby" such as a tour of the "torture chamber" (a medieval torture device museum, which we had to drag both of my sons out of) and games. It's a great place for some winter fun. Tickets cost as little as $30 each.

It's about as anti-boot camp as you can get, LOL.
My son's PIR was 12/18 and we departed on the 19th. We didn't plan anything, we went out to lunch and dinner and relaxed, he went on Facebook and called his friends and family. The best picture I have of him is him sitting in a chair in the hotel room, full uniform and sound asleep - its priceless........We let out Sailor decide what to do and he just wanted to relax and we were captivated by the funniest stories we ever heard......hours worth....so much fun.
My son's PIR was 9/11/09 and it is true that you will want to ask your sailor when you see him if he wants to sleep or see Chicago. My son wanted to see Chicago so we took the train in and went on a double-decker bus to sightsee. You can get on and off the bus at a lot of the sights and parking is so hard and expensive in Chicago. Just plan enough time for the train trip as it takes approx. 2 hours each way but we just chatted w/our new sailor and had a great time. The Navy Pier was a lot of fun...especially watching people react to your new sailor in his shiney new uniform. Very proud!
I asked my son what he wants to do after PIR and he said he just wants to stay on base and chat with me and his grandma. I can't believe that's all he wants but that's fine with me. We only get the few hours after PIR to see him since he's g&g.
