My boyfriend is planning on joining the Navy and I am so so proud of him, and excited for him.
I am kind of curious about what I should expect. Besides being apart for long periods of time, and him not being able to communicate from time to time.  I am mostly curious about what kind of time line I am looking at:
After he takes the ASVAB how long will it be before he goes to boot camp?
Is he allowed to write and receive letters while he is at boot camp?
After boot camp will he come back home before going to A school?, and if so for how long.
He is hoping to be trained in the medical field so assuming he does how long will A school last?
and What happens after A school?

Thanks for your help!!

The wait can be up to a year. They can send and receive letters at boot camp. They go directly to A school, any leave would come after his training. I'd have to look at how long his A school is, I'm more familiar with technical rates.

Search through the groups to find areas which will interest you, such as the Depper group to begin with, and the girlfriends group. I'd do it for you but my battery is low.... if you can't find them, I'll check tomorrow.
here are one of the links Anti M were talking about http://www.navyformoms.com/group/deppersinbutnotyet read some of the discussions for good info

There are several groups for girlfriends...just type girlfriends in the search mode in groups
In addition you may want to search on the Navy web pages and in wikipedia for the Navy medical rates. Wikipedia will give you the line scores that he will need on the ASVAB to get to pick his rate of choice. It will also depend on the Navy's need.
