I'm not a city driver and tend to get nervous  but would really like to rent a car. Which Airport would be the the most simple drive? I'm thinking it would be Midway.

Midway is a ways out of town. I didn't rent a car and used shuttle to get to hotel and train and bus to get around. But then my son was grad and go and my future daughter in law was with me. I think wither gps they have on phones nowadays I could have driven everywhere but then I wouldn't had the fun we had on the trains between great lakes and downtown Chicago.

I'm renting a car, and flying into O'hare.  Friends have advised me to stay out of South side of Chicago where Midway is located.  In addition, rental cars cost 3 times more around Midway than they do at O'hare, and I can pick it up at the counter when I land.  I was also advised to stay off of the subway coming from Midway to downtown, then going around.  I'd love to park and ride the L, but will enjoy my rental car as I can take it and go ANYWHERE WE WANT! LOL...  Try to keep your wits while driving in Chicago.  It's not all bad, but it can get the best of you without a GPS unless you have a companion with you.

Im flying out from San Anotnio, which airport should I fly too??

Hi Faith94 - I can't tell if anyone replied to you.  Somewhere on this site is great information about traveling to/from PIR.  In that spot (that I'm looking for right now) it said that flying in to Milwaukee, WI is cheaper and it's pretty close to the RTC.  For me coming from Houston, it's cheaper; my bet would be that it is probably going to be cheaper for you too.

There is a discussion in Boot Camp Mom's, What airport are you flying into?, that may help.

Hi Moms,

I just came from PIR 09/21/2012.  You may want to double check those rates for flying in to PIR.  I came in to O'hare and drove my rental car to Waukegan, stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, and was only about 5 minutes from the base.  I strongly recommend you attend the Sarge's Meet and Greet!!!  You will learn A LOT about the PIR experience, and your trip will be very pleasurable.  Milwaukee is over an hour drive to PIR.  O'hare is about 30 minutes. The other thing is, different airlines fly to different cities.  I used www.hotwire.com to find my flight, perfect, rent my car, perfect, and had no issues at all.  Hope this helps.
PS>  The brochure from MWR doesn't necessarily have the lowest prices, although I do appreciate them having it as a reference for us to use.  Stay at the Navy Lodge for $65 a night for a double room.  Your SR is your sponsor.

Thank you, for the information (Jennsmom).
