It is common practice to have the wisdom teeth removed in bootcamp (my Sailor only had 2 removed) - this is so that they don't end up with an emergency impaction somewhere at or under the sea and not be able to extract them. It's not always done early on in the training (unless that's changed in the last 2 years)... My guess is mine had it done week 3 or 4.
Our regular dentist recommended they be removed about 4 months before he left for bootcamp. Thanks to this site I knew the Navy would take care of it so we waited. And therefore saved $$ 8-)
It is common enough that the Navy dentists are skilled at extraction, and the RDCs know how to take care of the recruit.
Doesn't have to? Yeah, like any recruit would refuse.
