Brett's Mom, I haven't heard about that new rule. That would be awesome!!! Glad you finally got your form letter. Maybe mine will come someday :). Glad you got to talk to him. My SR called his girlfriend and said he would call me on Mon if they got another call. I hope they do!

Oh I hope you get a call!!!  I can't believe how much it helps.  It sounds like the new rule just started so hopefully it will continue.  It sure makes a difference. I'm sure it does for them as well.

It was really awesome to have a call 2 days in a row! I'm so happy to hear from my son, and each and every time I do I consider it a real privilege. I know he's doing really well and I couldn't be more proud of him.

One thing we should all remember is that every one of their calls is a privilege for them too. They have to earn the privilege to use the phone. When I was in boot camp, we had to earn the privilege to sit in a chair, let alone go to the phone center. They can have their privileges taken away at any time for screwing up, even if its just one recruit in their division, they can all be punished for it because that's what teaches them to be shipmates. Their actions and in-actions directly affect others all the time in the fleet. Just because there is a "rumor" (scuttlebutt) that they can call on a certain day doesn't mean it's going to happen. Hope for it, but know that it may not happen. And don't worry, they're absolutely fine, they'll be a lot different when you see them after graduation. This is just a little info (gouge - pronounced GOWDGE) from an Old Salt.

Also, just a reminder for family members of any service member: Loose Lips Sink Ships. While this is a wonderful way for all of us to connect and console each other, be mindful of the information you put on this or any other website. You don't want to cause problems for your recruit. This is something that is very important for us back home to understand from here on out and now is very good practice for us. Believe me, I dedicated almost 20 years of my life to the Navy and they watch everything that's posted on every known website. They can track who said what and you don't want your recruit to get mashed for something that you posted online, even if it seems innocuous. I'm not trying to be the wet blanket here, but we do need to be careful about posting scuttlebutt. If I get a call on Sundays, awesome, if I don't, I'm not worried. I know where he's at, and I know he's doing his best. I know he's safe.

Always be flexible, that's the best bet. You know they want to call and they will when they can. Watch what you post because it could get them mashed. They cannot be beaten like when my Dad was in boot camp 45 years ago, but they can get some pretty intense physical training or even worse, set back if they've screwed up before. None of us want that. I'm not trying to get on anyone, or hurt anyone's feelings, I'm just sharing some of my Navy experience with some of you who may be new to Navy life.

Good advice, hemi-nay. Many of us have no military in our background!

Have any of you heard from your SR's lately?  Any idea how the Div is working?

We received a letter on Thursday. Our son sounded good and getting excited to see us on graduation!

I finally got one on Friday!  He said he would call soon(ish) but I don't really think I will hear from him until the "I'm a Sailor call".  Did you message diannep to find out the BS date?  If not, I can get that to you as well. I can't believe this is coming up so fast!!!  We are just about in the 10 day range so we can track the weather lol

In the letter I got last week it said that fire fighting was this week and that battlestations was going to be on Monday 3/4. He sounds so happy and I am so excited to get that final call!! At least it looks like that friday will be the warmer day of the week, if you can call 41 warm! LOL
