Hi Everyone, my son graduated 10/15 and is attending A School at GL. I don't know much other than he is going to be a Medical Corpsman. He did mention that the Marines will be needing alot of corpsman and they may need them sooner than later which I am not going to even think about. Anyway, I'm glad I'm here!

When do they fill out the request for their choices? Once he classes up my sons A school will only be 6 weeks so I'm on pins and needles wondering when we'll find out where he will end up. San Diego would be nice, since we are in CA, but I think he's aiming for farther away than that. He's been the military type for a long time and tells me stuff on a need to know basis so I rely on N4M's to give me more information (which always amazes him, now when he tells me something he asks me if I already knew).

I think A school is just the first letter because my hubby went to both A & B school.

louann: My son is a yeoman also. Yes, I know what you mean about being far away! Maybe he can put down Norfolk as his 2nd choice? They rarely get their first choice....well, if he knows that, he may put San Diego as his 2nd or 3rd choice! :-)

clclrt: Not sure if the A stands for apprentice or is just the first letter in the alphabet! HA! Couldn't find an explanation of it through google.

diannep...my son's school starts on Monday 10/18. Not really sure of anything after that. He is a yoeman. I think thats how its spelled. His rate changed 3 times while in BC so I just take one day at a time now. No need to try and figure it all out. I would love for him to go to VA since we live in NC but he wants to go to San Diego. That is just too far away from mommy.

louann: He is now stationed in VA. Yes, he liked Meridian ok. Not too much to do there so he went to the mall alot. Didn't like that he finished finished school April 1st but was in hold until mid-May so he couldn't leave. They had a real backup when he was there...most were in hold for long periods of time...but they didn't have to be in hold long before they started school (many are in hold then). My son is now assigned to a ship out of Norfolk that is currently dry docked. But his rate is office/administrative support, so his job continues even though dry docked. He is loving the Navy right now....

Thanks diannep. I sent them this morning but due to Monday being a holiday, he will not get them Tuesday.
Is there anyone on this group that has a sailor at Meridian?
Comment by diannep on October 8, 2010 at 12:45pm
