imomxfour,

Our shuttle driver did a turn around and dropped us off across the street from the gate.  He told us where he would be parked after PIR.  He was so nice, he even let our new sailor daughter ride the shuttle back to our hotel for free (the hotel charged a small fee per person for the shuttle which was no big deal for us  - well worth it!!)  We stayed at the Sleep Inn on 41.

BTW, we used a shuttle for PIR when our son graduated back in February and it was great!!!!! There is no issue about needing to go back to the hotel - we jumped out at the hotel & got in our truck and went out to eat like we had planned. I loved getting dropped off right at the gate, bypassing that HUGE, LONG line of cars waiting to get in. We stayed at Navy Lodge that time.

For our daughter, we stayed at The Gateway on base, and was told we could park in the front parking lot near the exit, by the welcome center building/security, and then we walked over - it was a beautiful morning and only took 10 minutes or so to get there. We walked right in the gate, and again, walked right back out when we left, no waiting at all....got in our truck and went on our way!

I'd say either one of these options are the best way to go - weather permitting for the walking option, of course! ;-)

MomOf FutureAM & Jody - I understand - both of my kids missed their chance to advance to E2 in boot camp, our son goofed up something on General Orders or Chain of Command (idk which) but passed his 1st PFA, our daughter got Chain of Command & General Orders right, but she and few other girls that were running together miscounted their laps and were 1 lap short for the 1st PFA.

She did the same thing for her 2nd PFA too, when the counter board said 12 laps she thought it meant she had run 12 laps, but it meant she was just starting her 12th lap. :( For her 3rd PFA, she kept running & running, until they told her she could stop because she was done, and she asked, "ARE YOU SURE??? Did I run the whole 12 laps this time???"   lol...poor thing!  She kicked butt that 3rd time though, thank goodness! It's amazing how much stronger they get in just that 8 weeks!

MomOfFutureAM,

That is a real bummer to miss it by one and to have a possible error on the count.

Jody,

My daughter had a problem finishing her run as well, but she finally passed on her second try.  They gave her a running partner to help her pace.

My daughter missed her PFA by a 2 minute finish. She was bummed out.

thk you imomxfour...she would have advanced to E2 in BC but missed passing her PFA by 1 push-up. she and her partner didn't agree on the count...urg

Lady Hamilton,

Some of the hotel shuttles have several runs back to the hotel after PIR.  We took a shuttle, got right in past the long line of cars, and shopped at the NEX for awhile before taking the shuttle back to the hotel.  Going back and forth to pick up and drop off our daughter after PIR was easy as not everyone is trying to get in at the same time.

MomOfFutureAM - they will advance 9 months after they went to boot camp,  and then advance to E3, 9 months after that, and E4, 6 months after that.
