OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Marcelle,  That's quite alright.  It's good to connect with someone else who is going through this (and is ahead of where I am).

For those boot campers: it will take a while to get your first letters...so don't worry! But keep writing! I wrote every day...it took forever for snail mail back and forth :(
And if heading to Pensacola, do try and plan a visit. It's a great place (check out the posts on the Pensacola A School group) and most often there's a wait to "class up" so your sailors have some time :) they go through privileges upgrades about every week, meaning they can go off base and not wear a uniform...about 3 weeks in. 2 weeks in if I recall correctly they have a 12MN curfew until a certain point.
@Sesa, you can attend A School graduation, it's nothing like PiR...usually pretty small and sparsely attended...I was the only one there for the ABF one lol) but it would be a nice weekend to spend in Pensacola!

Hello, my son just left for BC yesterday so this is all brand new to me.  His contract is to be an aviator handler. We are still quite a ways away from him going to A school, but I wanted to learn from you all what may be useful to know.

Hello, my daugher is also in bc right now and will be heading to Pensacola about the same time as your daughter Sesa.  I am new to the navyformoms site and am so happy to know I am not the only mom missing her child.
