Hi Navy Moms - my daughter is ABE on Truman in VA since Feb '15.  We are from OR and she is deeply regretting her decision to request to be stationed in VA.  Once stationed and assigned to a ship is there any way to change bases to Cali or WA?  Flights are so expensive she can't afford to come home!  She tells me she can't buy tix ahead of time b/c the chit can't get final approval until late so must by a refundable ticket close to her time off which means tickets are over $800 RT.  Any ideas?

Any and all information implies a lot.  I could answer some questions, my son has been in almost 11 years and is an ABH2 currently serving on the IKE.  He previously served a 2 year shore rotation in Meridian MS and before that on the Stennis out of Bremerton.

Is this site still active? I have an AA E2. His rate is an ABH. Just hoping to find some information. He arrived at Pensacola on 6.13.2015 and is loving it, so far! Interested in any and all information!

MillhouseMom- My son is ABF. They have 5 weeks of A school also, but he was in Pensacola for about 2 months. He was there for a few weeks waiting to class up and get started, then the government shutdown that time put them on hold for awhile too. As far as deployment, it will all depend on his orders, if he gets stationed on a ship and when that ship is scheduled to deploy. My son is on the Bush. He got there in November, and was out on a 9 month deployment the following February. They can also get sent out on a different ship than they're stationed to if their ship isn't scheduled to deploy for quite awhile and they need to get qualifications done.

My SR is still in BC. Graduates on 7/10 and then heads to A School in Pensacola for ABE. It is such a short A School for ABE, only 5 weeks. Hopefully we will get to visit him there. For parents of ABE's, how soon were you kids deployed? What has the job been like for them? I hear it is one of the hardest jobs.

Tracy:  Thanks so much for your info.  I am getting a chance to visit on the phone with my sailor!  Hooray!  It sounds like a college setting (except for watch, liberty, and cleaning chores)!  it's great that the NEX is so close.   What a good idea to visit him during A school!  (Our sailor says he can see an ocean view out of his window!  Wow!)  Thanks again!

Kassie- When my son was there, they had class mon-fri most of the day, then liberty was called once they got back to the barrack and they were free to do whatever for the evening. We went too see him toward the end of A school and he spent evenings and the weekend with us. They have quite a bit of freedom. The NEX is within walking distance, or some would take a cab on the weekend to P'cola beach. I don't remember sending anything down there, mainly because he had the freedom to get whatever he needed.

Are there any Moms that have some experience with the Pensacola sailor's schedules?  Just wondering what we moms can do to support this phase up time and then the A school studying!  Has anyone sent care packages?  What have you sent?  Lots of questions!  LOL  :)

Kassie- there should be a group specifically for that PIR date. I'm sure there will be some on there.
