My son is at Whidbey Island now. He got there yesterday. Anyone else have a son/daughter there? Wanting some info on what happens next. He and I spoke for 5 minutes yesterday after he got home from his first and before he had to go to PT. So far I know he will be working in the hangar M-F from 7 am to 3 or 4 and then PT after work.  I wanted him to call me last night, so we could talk more about his day, but he never did. :-(

Sorry everybody...my daughter is a AM...

Comment by UrabissWife on April 29, 2013 at 9:00pm

there is only 1 female AD in my husbands shop, but within his squadron there is quit a bit. you have the AE AM LS and I think there are more rates within a squadron those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head. since they are all in the same hanger, the females usually hang out so there are not a lot. the female AD is only there because when she  joined she was listed as "open" so the navy stuck here where they needed her

There aren't very many female ADs in my son's squadron, but I think females make up 16% of enlisted sailors, so I guess it is fairly representative.

I asked my son if there was any difference between the males and females as far as workload, and he said the females just didn't carry as many chains on the flight deck. :)

Jensmom, is your daughter graduating on the 25th? My son started classes for AD the same time as your daughter. He just got his orders. He is going to Washington. How about your daughter? Where is she going?
