I have an 18 month old grandson running around in NC. Dad is a Marine and Mom is a Navy vet.  I surfe miss not having them closer. Oh well, that's military life.  And my son is in Korea teching English to elementary & middle school age kids. So he is really far away. he has been there since July, so coming up on a year. Our family  says this is a "deployment" for him. Easier to deal with that way.  All of you have a great Easter!

Johanna, Yes, my son wasn't on the Mesa Verde for the last deployment, but many of the people on board were. That was a short turnaround for them. When my son got to the ship, he was told it would not deploy until 2012, and the CO talked about sending him TAD to another ship for a while to get more of his quals. Then they found out last fall it would cover the San Antonio's deployment in July. Then in early March they were told they would deploy March 23. There was a real rush to get ready.

My son has been on the Mesa Verde since early September. He hasn't been home since Christmas. We went up to Norfolk to see him the weekend before they deployed, and then I got to see him for about 10 minutes at the port in Morehead City while the Marines were loading.

You can get Navy Wife shirts too.  They also have a sterling Navy locket ($39.95), and a Navy dogtag ($5.95 incl chain, zipper pull or keychain, and choice of silencer color) that you can customize; I'm doing one for a friend, whose son is deploying, with her favorite quotation.  I have no connection with this company, just like sharing cool Navy stuff I find! :)  http://www.navypictures.net

$24.95 (two dollars more if you want ladies' fitted style) and $5 shipping.  The owner is Richard Ruth, email rruth@navypictures.net if you have any questions...

Amphib moms, I was ordering a Navy dogtag today and came across these "Proud Navy Mom" shirts - the company will put any ship on, just have to ask (I emailed and asked for the Kearsarge, and he responded almost instantly!) ~ Proud Navy Mom ship t-shirts
