Hi Disy,
Congrats to your daughter as a candidate! While B&G officers want to have all their qualified candidates go to the Naval Academy, there are only so many slots available. Further, it helps with the Nomination process as well as giving the candidates the opportunity to explore all the academies. It really lends an intent to pursue a military career. Many candidates are tenacious and pursue more than one academy. B&G officers often recommend Navy ROTC programs as well. If students are not selected for the Academy, they may be offered ROTC or a NAPS (Naval Academy Prep School), which better prepares the student academically at the Academy if accepted the following year We have had a few come thru NAPS, and while at first they may have been disappointed, the now recognize the value in doing so.

We also had a female Navy ROTC (1yr of ROTC) student join the ranks of the class of 2016. While she will have to do all 4 years at USNA, she is better prepared than those fresh of HS.

In short there are several paths to the Naval Academy, and similarly various paths to Service selection choices if the first choice is not available.

So my daughter is officially a candidate for Annapolis but I was wondering if anyone else had this situation!

The Blue and Gold Officer called her last night and recommended that she also apply for the Air Force Academy! He said she could get a nomination for that??? Seems strange that he is interviewing for Annapolis and would recommend that she apply for USAF?

Hey, nothing is impossible.  We never in our wildest dreams thought our son would be accepted to USNA much less all three academies.  In fact, he got the Vice Presidential nomination to Air Force which was a total shocker.  So pursue everything!!

Ann - yes she has the letters of recommendation given to her coaches and counselor at the High School so as soon as she receives an academic number she can then apply to the Senators, Vice President and Representative here in CA. The deadline is November 1st but none of our nomination applications can be put in without that academic number from Annapolis - which we totally understand why - if she wasn't eligible to even apply I guess it would be wasting everyone's time! She seems to have everything ready to go as soon as she gets that - and of course IF she gets that!!! As you say lots of steps in this process and it seems it could fall apart at any step! Oh well! I told her to keep positive - what will be will be!!!

Disy-- has she done her requests for nominations to senators, representatve, vice president? If not she needs to do that now. The deadlines for nomination requests here in Louisiana varied from mid October to December.

Thanks Ann - good to know it takes a while - she can breathe! With 10 000+ applying every year she realizes it's tough to get in but not knowing when she should hear was adding stress!

Disy: My son is a 2011 graduate. The application process isn't that quick. He applied to USNA, USMA, and USAFA all in mid September. He was accepted to West Point right away pending all the other requirements (nomination, ACT scores, physical, grades, recommendation letters, etc). He didn't get his appointment to the Naval Academy until late February early March. He was also accepted to Air Force and didn't hear from them until the end of April. She should get a candidate number which will give her online access to all the forms and letters required. It is a lengthy process. Lots of details to pay attention to. Hi Moms - newbie question! My daughter has completed her USNA preliminary application online. Can someone tell us how long it will take before we hear back from them. She applied September 13th. We can't seem to find out how long the process takes from here on in! Will they send her a yes or no answer immediately?

My nephew is bearing up during plebe summer.  I talked to my sister in law yesterday.  Thought some of you may appreciate the Boat School Boys
