Thank-you everyone for you're advice and kindness. What is a packing party? Is it in the Tampa area?
i'm thinking real hard now about what will be best for Austin, the day he leaves. I don't want him beginning his journey, withmemories of Mom crying on and off all day. As it is now, I have to run and hide everytime the tears start rolling.
I'm so glad this site is available, and I know I will be on, more and more as time passes on.
Does anyone know, after preBUD's if they are allowed to come home , or if they go directly to Coronado ?
If all goes as planned, "A" will be in BUDS in Coronado during the holidays.... Dare I ask...? DO t hey allow the guys to leave for any time during the holiday season?
Again, thank you all for responding to my post. I appreciate eacha nd every one of you.

Sue, My son left for boot camp in Jan. and his father and I dropped him off at the recruiting station on Tues and he had to wait there for a while before they left and his recruiter encouraged us to stay. We went down to MEPS on Wed morning and watched as he was sworn in. He was one of the 1st groups sworn in that day which was around 9:30 am. They did not leave for the airport until 1:45 that afternoon. We sat with him the whole time, most of the time he didn't talk, but he told us he was glad we were there with him. He told us we could go to the airport with him and once we got there we had less than 3 min. with him because everyone flying out to GL were going to security and he wanted to stay with the group which we thought was a good idea and than he was gone. It was good and bad, we didn't have to sit and wait and watch the time just go bye. I was glad I went.

Cory is in A school now. I went to see him this weekend and I cried when it was time for him to go back to the base. I just couldn't help it. I know he's happy and he has made some great friends . He will be home in about a month for hopefully 2 weeks and than he goes back for his C school.

Good Luck and like everyone else has mentioned we are here for you. I went to my first packing party just shortly after Cory had left for boot camp and it was so good to be with these women that knew exactly how I felt. It was an instant bond. I hope you can make it to the packing party. I am planning on being at the party, I need to RSVP.

Sue, I couldn't have said what Mary said any better. our son told us we could or couldn't come over to Tampa. since he didn't seem to care and it would've been time off work plus an extra goodbye we didn't go. it was hard enough saying goodbye as his recruiter picked him up to take him to the airport. it was rough...not gonna lie there. but it's a growing experience for your son as well as yourselves. and, believe me, I (personally) have to keep growing up more and more. I'll prob be on here soon crying the blues as our son is heading out very soon for his first deployment. I was glad that we didn't end up going over because Justin told us that he was kept really busy until they flew out.

but welcome and hope to meet you at the packing party

The weeks have passed so quickly... Question. . . . Austin
'ships out" on June 3, He spends the previous night at the hotel.
Soooooo Do we get to go to MEPS to see him sworn in, will be told of the flight info, to see him off at the airport?
I'm having a real tough time trying to deal with his leaving, even though I know how hard he has worked to meet this goal.
If anyone has info for me, I would soooo greatly appreciate it.
Thank you, Sue
