Lonasboys-- Welcome. As you can see this page is not super active. The Colorado Parents is a bit more so. If you want to join us on the Boot Camp page there are lots of New moms there and TONS of support to help you get through this time of adjustment.
I have a blog of what to expect for the first weeks. https://navyformoms.ning.com/profiles/blogs/boot-camp-first-weeks-t...
TLDR: Talk about who they would want to be told about if something bad happens during their time in BC (Sad and scary but so necessary!). Have them call your phone and leave you a voice mail that you can listen to while they are gone and there is no communication. (Wait till you HAVE to hear it!). Write them a short note to keep in their wallet till they NEED it during BC. They will know when they need those words of love and encouragement!! Welcome to the roller coaster!!
Hello. Glad to find this group. Anyone else have a son/daughter leaving from Denver this week?
I think you're right. I've suggested that he find a good used car. We'll see if he listens :). Thank you for the advice.
Buying in cash is always better than leasing and if he leases then there are other considerations for registration. If he isn't planning to keep it through deployment he may want to reconsider the whole car ownership deal. When you factor in Title, registration, taxes, gas, insurance, maintenance, storage.... Paying for Uber may make more sense. If he's going into Dry Dock then they aren't really deployed and he may be ok with a good used car. STAY AWAY from the Stealerships... I mean dealerships. They way overcharge for used cars.
belovedbyHim Thanks for the help. I didn't even consider where to register it. It appears he can get out of the lease if he is deployed but that wouldn't count for dry doc so he may be paying more in the long run. I think he needs to give this more thought. :)
I know they can get out of Apartment leases but I haven't heard that they can get out of Car leases. Also he might want to check and see if registration is less in CO than GC.
Hello! My son started Power School this week in GC. He's tired of not having a vehicle there and is in the process of looking. He's deciding between a used car in the 8K -10K range or just leasing until deployment. We hear service members going on deployment can "get out of the lease" which he will have for a little over a year or so. Has anyone else done this? Also, we heard to go with insurance through USAA. Anyone have this as well? Thanks for the help.
HI there. Glad you are here. There are lots of Navy families here. I think the fb group is busier than here. Glad to see this page starting up again.
Hello Everyone. I was happy to find this group, and interested to see others from Colorado. At our son's PIR I think there were maybe 2 families from Colorado out of 700+ graduates. Ha Ha! We tried to cheer loudly, but Texas and California had it in the bag. Our son is at GC currently in T-track waiting to class up for PS. This has been an experience to say the least, but we are super proud and happy for him. Enjoy the snow today!
