Julie - this MOM spent a lot of time on N4D.  They have a different take on our "kids" being away and I got different information from them.  The most useful tip I got there was to fly into Milwaukee rather than Chicago.  It was several hundred dollars cheaper, rental cars was within walking distance, it was easier to get to Great Lakes right down the highway rather than dealing with Chicago's O'Hare airport.   (We're from the Western Slope and were happy to use a smaller airport.) I would recommend that site as a supplement to N4M.

Apalamas - Your cake turned out really cute.  I can see that you put a lot of work into doing it.  After the months you described, maybe this was a good way to get your mind off all the other things on your plate.  I pray things turn around for the better for you and your family.

It sounds like you'll have a great turn-out for your get-together.

I think the more the merrier.   We could also plan a later date which gives us more time to find a location to accomodate the larger group.

Julie - Depending on how many seats the restaurant has, I could put the word out on my website, NavyDEP.com

I know most deppers would never even tell their parents anything, much less having a get together at a restaurant.  However, these deppers are different.  They are actually really motivated because they searched out my website and are looking for answers.  I bet I have probably 15 deppers from Colorado, and lets say only 3 families show up, that would be another 10.

The website for Navy Dads is NavyDads.com

I'm a member over there too, so if you want, and the restaurant can handle it, I can put the word out their too...  I will wait until someone says the restaurant can handle, possibly, 15 more people.

That's a great idea.  If anyone else knows their sailors recruiting office or has their info, I see no reason why we shouldn't reach out to them.   I didn't know about NavyForMoms until the month before he left for BC.  My son said the recruiting office did not know about them and afterall - we are the Colorado Moms group so let's get those newbies involved!  Someone told me there is a NavyForDads site.  My husband's not not ever searched for them.

What would be really cool (if the restaurant is big enough) is invite the Family member and deppers from the recruiting station in Castle Rock.  It would be a good opportunity for the newbie family members to know that have a really good support system when their recruits go to boot camp.

Chris N - please spread the word.

Right now we have 17!    Our final challenges ...

1. Is this a breakfast or lunch (either works for me - anyone with sports conflicts?)

2.Where to meet in Castle Rock to hold our size group?

Some suggestions have been Black eyed pea & Applebees. If you know the area, please weigh-in.   Perhaps one of us knows the owner of a cafe or restaurant in the area who can reserve a section for us (hint hint)
