Hi.  I would like to join you at the 10/13 get together.  My son graduated boot camp in June and is now in school in CT to be a Submarine Electronics Technician.  I live in Monument so a get together in Castle Rock is perfect.  Does anyone have a time and place in mind? Thanks, Sandi

Good Morning,

Julie, I actually meant Castle Rock (mind wasn't working last night)  Lunch sounds nice.  As far has I know 10/13 works for me.

Thanks cherqui, prayers are very welcome.  This deployment has alot of us worried.  They were on deployment last year and just got back in March, weren't even suppose to go back out and then told it would be in Dec, then moved up to aug.  so they were only home for about 5 months.

Lol I hate driving in snow, always have.  We should be safe in Oct, but you know how our weather is.

Hi - I am fairly new to the group too. PIR7/20 and son graduates GL A school in a few weeks.   Looking forward to seeing him in Oct before he deploys.  I am up for a meet & greet too. I live in SW Denver. Perhaps Castle Rock is a mid-point between Springs & Denver area?  A Saturday breakfast/lunch?  I am busy on 9/29 & 10/6 though so shall we shoot for 10/13?  Just need a location

Hi Apalamas.  We will keep your son and your family in our prayers for a safe deployment and return home.  A lunch or coffee somewhere would be great...especially before the snow comes.  We spent 26 years in Mobile, AL, and the past 4 years in CO, so driving in snow is a bit challenging ;) after sub-tropical weather.

Hi and welcome cherqui, nates mom.   I am in the springs.  I think there was talk of a coffee meet at one time like maybe in monument............I think that's a great idea.

My son is on the stennis, deployed.  He came home on leave in Aug, before the deployment and so glad I got to see him.  Its gonna be a while before we get see him again.  I am sure seems longer to him, he says the heat is unbearable where he is at.

Hopefully we can find a date and place that works for everyone.

Hi Nate's Mom and Other Mom's from CO.  I'm also new to the group, and new to the Navy.  We are from Centennial, CO.  Our son just started ODS last Sunday and will be graduating on Oct 12.  His first station is Naval Hospital Pensacola as a Navy Nurse.  I'd love to meet some of you.  Nate's Mom, where do you live?  Anyone close to Denver?

It has been awhile since I commented on this sight, but I just wanted to let KathyMmom know my thoughts are with her and her family. May you and your sailor have many blessings in the future.

Thank you everyone!  I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help and support.  This isn't going to be an easy process, but we are working through things slowly.  Part of the problem we are having is that our son has only been in for 1 year and he really wants to stay.  This is NOT in his best interest, and if he finds a way to get them to find him 'fit' but 'undeployable' this will be the worst possible scenario for him.  This is an emotional issue for him, but we are working on that and showing him what that outcome will be and how damaging that will be for his health and future.  That's our first battle.  The good news on that front is that he has laid out a plan for his future that includes some Professional Diving Certificates, an EE degree, and a Masters at SCRIPPS in Oceanography.  At least he has some short term and long term goals.  We are very pleased with this.

Craig - thank you for so much information.  I did indeed make 3 copies of everything I could get my hands on while he was in the hospital.  I will have my son go over next week and make copies of the local medical record at this point.  That is a fantastic suggestion!  We are starting to look at all of the sites and resources that you have provided and medonnell55 provided some great information too - so between my husband, my son, and I, we are researching fools!  :-)

They have a class at NMCSD called D-TAPS which actually goes over the process quite well and then they provide 'Disability Advisors' which appear to be civilian lawyers that help you as well.  There is a lady at NMCSD that is being medboarded out too and while she is on LIMDU and assiged to NMCSD, she was tired of standing watch on the quarter deck so she took it upon herself to become a 'liason' and she talks to all the sailors in the hosptial that have conditions which are so serious that they will be discharged.  She was also a wealth of information.  The Navy has not normally provided this, but once she started, they saw the need and have started forming that up across the board.

My husband will be heading back out to SD in a couple of weeks to attend the D-TAP class with my son, and start working through the process with him.  The Doctors are suggesting (although they really have no say here) that he should get 60% from the Navy because his case is so severe, which would mean he can get his full GI Bill and his medical coverage.  That would be ideal for him (since his medication can cost upwards of $5000 every 8 weeks for the rest of his life - can you believe that?  What is wrong with that picture?  Ridiculous!)   Once we get that percentage we will go to the DAV (thank you again Craig!) and start working on the VA process as well.

Wish I could do something that would change things, but since that is not possible, we are going to get through this. I do thank you all for the support and encouragement.  Our son is going to go on to do amazing things!

I will let you know how things go.
