OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Welcome GaNavyMom.
During bootcamp, you will celebrate all of your sailor's successes and worry when he worries. When he begins A school to become a corpsman, you will go through it again. If he goes to FMTB, same thing. You will be amazed how he grows as a man just during bootcamp. During A school, you will be in awe of his medical knowledge gained in a few short months. Once he is at his first duty assignment, he'll realize he is pretty green but will learn so much if he has great corpsman around to train him. I wish both of you the best of luck!

Hi Nikki! Nowadays, nearly every corpsman goes through FMTB at some point, even if they don't end up assigned to a Marine unit. Yes, things can change and as TDM will tell you, "Ma Navy" takes precedence always. Sounds like you're getting mixed messages and nothing specific. FMTB isn't "spec ops," it's eight weeks of combat-care training (not a "C" School) with other corpsmen in the Marine Corps environment. Perhaps you should go sit down with your son's recruiter and ask for some clarification, to settle your mind. Then do as TDM says and do something else today! :)

When my son was training at the height of the 2 combat zones, pretty much every Corpsman received FMTB training in case the Marines needed them. The FMF qualification is earned in a combat zone.
That said, it would seem to me that any corpsman serving special ops would go through FMTB training. Special ops will go anyplace, any where at any time if I'm remembering correctly. On the other hand, he may sit right there in Virginia for quite a while. Don't make yourself crazy worrying about a situation that hasn't developed yet, as a military mom,you'll have plenty of opportunity for more worry....go do something nice for yourself, or work in the yard, go to the gym, think about something else today!

Hi Ladies! My son is on day 2 of field training at camp lejuene. After he finishes he is supposed to head to Portsmouth Virginia for his job. He is reserve with never any intent of going FMF. Its overwhelming and scary. I kinda feel like his recruiter wasnt really honest with us. I don't know what to expect my son said his instructions told them with tensions high they'll probably get deployed. He is not assigned to a marine division so what does that mean. PS he said he is with special ops if that makes sense. He was top 10% in San Antonio and deans list.
