Thanks March and JLC for the info. Yes, my son said that he studies so much for these tests.  I guess he'll adjust his time to study when he reaches that point.  Thanks again for the information!

Hi Pam - CorpsmanMom!  My son said he will probably be going through FMTB training after this.  I know he takes alot of tests now (3 a week) but if I remember correctly don't they have testing in FMTB more that that?  These days I really don't leave much to my memory.LOL.  Thanks for responding Pam. Even though he's been in for a while now, I still miss him.  I'm glad I get to talk to him every day but I hope he can come home soon at least for a little wihie.

emilee27kak - it will be a couple weeks before he gets off base liberty and then it has to be earned.  Meaning he has to pass his room inspections and tests.

We stayed at the Spring Hill Suites in Waukegan and for a queen/queen suite with hide-a-bed it came to about $90 a night.  For A School Grad since I was by myself,  I stayed at the Sleep Inn (literally right down the road from the base) and it came to about $70 a night with my son's military discount.  The Sleep Inn was ok, but you could tell they allowed smoking there.  Here in GA there is no smoking in any public buildings so you get used to not having to smell that at restaurants and other places.  I'm one of those really, really bad EX smokers!!

Another smart tip - we drove up for bootcamp and then I flew into Milwaukee for A School Grad.  It took about 45 minutes to get to base from there.  I rented a car right from the airport and it was only about $120 for three days.

Hi LindaB - it has been a while since I've seen you post!  Hopefully someone will be able to answer your question.  Will your son go through FMTB next?

I just went to PIR 4/1.  We stayed at the Navy Lodge ($65) a night, no tax, 2 queen size beds and you can get one with a kitchenette.  It is about a mile from graduation.  I rented a car through travelocity (budget) with tax it came to about 114 for 4 days.  Don't rent directly from the rental co... they charge an arm and  a leg!  someone else who attended our PIR stayed at the Navy Inn and Suites.. it is only $35 a night (no tax) that price scared me, but she said it was nice.  I am not sure where it is located compared to graduation.  If you get a chance, and they have one, try to attend the Meet and Greet at the Ramada Inn... it is very nice!

My boyfriend graduated yesterday. He left for San Antonio today. When is he able to get off base liberty? I want to start planning my trip to Texas because I live in Ohio so it needs to be planed way ahead of time. Haha.

Kelly in Katy,  We rented a car at the airport & stayed at the Marriott Spring Hill Suites in Waukegan....very reasonable, clean & comfortable with a free breakfast. It was about 15-20 minutes to the base from there & they had a shuttle bus service that took you to the base for PIR in case you didn't want to drive.  I would suggest calling the hotels instead of online tho because most of them have special rates for PIR.

Hello everyone. I have not been on this site in such a long time and then it was only once. My son is in San Antonio andI don't know exactly when he finishes there.  He went there in March.  His specialty is Psych Tech but he reminds me that he is a Medical Corpsman first so if they need him, that's first and foremost.  I think he will be going to Camp Pendleton but even he's not sure.  I guess nothing is  for sure in the Navy. Wherever they need him he will go.  I really miss him.  Do they get a chance to come home after C school?
