OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Thank you Inga for your comments. Yes I realize that he will have to graduate from BC and A school before he is an official Corpsman. I'm still learning all the procedures though. It is very helpful to know what others have gone through so that can I understand what is standard Navy. I really appreciate your insight!

Thank you everyone for your input. Yes, I am part of the BC group. I actually asked this question in each of the groups I belong to. It seems that because he is on ship duty he is limited in the amount of time he has to study and do pt and is concerned. I was only able to talk to him for a few moments and wasn't able to ask if he choose to be on ship duty or if it was assigned. I was hoping that there were other corpsman who were able to succeed under the same circumstances. We are sending letters of encouragement to him every day.

My husband was on Ship Staff while in BC. He said he volunteered. He thought he would get Phase II liberty faster in A school. It didn't, but kept in motivated at the time. Right now, he is FMTB at Camp Pendleton.

Jean, I'd check with the A School group listed above in the links, and there's also a list of the C schools available to corpsmen as well. Your son is working with the Navy advisers to find the best course for him (and of course, the Navy) and probably has some options, and is on different lists. Many corpsman, actually probably, most corpsman go to FMTB (links are above about the training) before any other training so they are already ready to be moved greenside with a Marine unit if the need is there.

No, we knew that he was going to be a Corpsman before he left for BC. What I was wondering is how he might have been selected for the ship staff while at BC.

Jean - are you asking when a Recruit, while in bootcamp, gets his orders to A School? I know my son knew before going to bootcamp that he was going to be a corpsman and reported to his A School as soon as bootcamp was over.

Does anyone know what are the determining factors when the SRs get their posts? My son will be a corpsman after BC and is currently on the ship staff.

Oh thank you so much texasdocmom, I appriciate that information. There are so many groups and all that its hard to keep up. I do remember my son talking about the part of going with the Marines. That would be such an honor. I don't know if my son had already decided that yet or not. Maybe it is not even time to decide it, however; thank you again. have a great day.
