Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

He's color-blind so there are lots of "fun" assignments he can't have. What he's hoping for is attached to Riverines, Seabees, air wing (if he can), FM or hospital ship. I have mixed feelings. I want him to be challenged and feel fulfilled, but I fret a little too..... what a whiner!

Hi, I'm new to this group. Our son will be "choosing" orders (based on class ranking) Monday. He has it narrowed down to three he's pretty excited about. Any advice based on your son's/daughter's experience?

He said there were "a ton" of people, they walked up and got their envelopes and only two family members made it there at 6 am. He said last night there would be a photographer, but I forgot to ask him this afternoon.
He left there and then went to Camp Bullis to teach his class, or whatever his assignment is this school go round.

My son just called, he just had rehearsal for his promotion ceremony, which is at 6AM tomorrow morning! He has to be there 4:45...do the ceremony, get his photo taken and then go to work. SUCKS.
I will get photos. He said all those being promoted are really pissed. No pinning ceremony, just do it and go on.

So, I will not whine that my son will be doing Christmas Eve and morning with the new girl friend's family and then come to dinner here. I think he thought he might get out of it by saying "it's our 6 month anniversary" . I gave him the Mom look. "SO?" and he said "Ham and Cheese potatoes for Christmas dinner?" and I said "of course". HA!
We have been very blessed that he's been home every Christmas...sometimes that was the only time in a year, and only for a few days, but still he was here!. I put it to the timing of his enlistment. He went in in Sept and that set it up for the holidays off. I think.

Jacqueline - We were in St. Augustine (just south of Jacksonville and Amelia Island) last February and it was record breaking cold!! If you love history, St. Augustine is one the neatest places we have been. Those armadillos are like rats. And they're slowly moving up into our area - Atlanta.
Our Sailor will be home for Christmas but two days after, I have to let him go for two years [Naples, Italy]. Trying not to let it get to me, but boy, it's hard. My husband actually told our son the last time he was home that it's better when he stays away because the goodbye's are too hard. And we knew he was going to be home in 8 weeks that time.

Jacqueline...he has to tell me when it is...there's the catcher. This week he's in those classes they take when they are promoted. He'll be here this weekend. I made myself clear on Thanksgiving, he started mumbling something about pictures of the ceremony...and I said "I'll take my own photos". To be fair, some units have a big deal ceremony, some do not.

And that's one reason that Field Corpsmen are known as the "toughest mofos around"...per more than one Marine to me....good for him!
