OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

(By the way, using all caps is considered shouting, so folks save using caps for all the big announcements of joy coming your way, like SHE'S A SAILOR!! or I GOT A CALL!) AKMom Dixie, I put the FMTB graduation photos in a new discussion on Camp Lejeune Moms. Hope you can find him! I tried so hard to track him down but we just missed him. They scattered fast after the ceremony, so many grabbing seabags and sharing cabs to the airport. Hope you can spot him!

Let's move on...new class of corpsmen grads means new moms coming to visit...I would suggest anyone thinking of marrying a Navy man or any military mom take a look at a post on Iraq/Afghan deployed board...well written, very emotional description of the last night at home before deployment by a Navy wife.

My son has been in San Antonio for almost a year, after Thanksgiving it'll be a year now. He teaches medical personnel new to the military combat techniques. These are doctors, nurses, etc, that enlist and the military pays off their student loans for a certain amount of time of service . I guess they run them all over the hot Texas Hill country...he seems to like it, but I know he misses his Marines.

Denise! you have upset no one! but I have to tell you, I've never seen a hint of any of the chiefs and commanders caring at all that those sailors they command are anyone's loved ones! Altho when they deploy they do stay on their backs to stay in touch with home so we don't worry quite so much, I'll give them that! Ma Navy has little sympathy for sailors or Marines....

Oh no Johnnys mom - I still call my grown children my babies all the time!! I was in "Mom Heaven" this weekend doing Jamie's laundry while he was home on leave. I thought I'd NEVER say that, but it really is the small things you miss when they're gone. And it is hard knowing that other people are now molding them. But in a good way!

Eileen, you are very welcome here...but I will point out up above the list of links that are there, we've collected them over the last while to help us all at each step of our sailor's careers. There is a group on N4Mom that focuses on A School, and I have to think those there probably can answer with up to date answers better than I can since my son has been in longer. That said, there isn't a one of us here that's shy about giving advice, so be prepared! I know your son's life will lighten on some levels, he'll be able to communicate more with you and his friends, but he might not have alot of time to do so! he will be very busy, studying his butt off. After A school, comes FMTB in most cases...that does not necessarily mean he'll go with Marines to serve, it simply means he will be capable to do so if needed.
