Hi, Christine...I'm now going to show off what little I know...because my son has finally drummed this into my head. FMTB is the training. FMF is a qualification earned after completing the training, as they serve as corpsmen with the Marines. I think I have it straight, haven't said it for a while. There are links above this comment bar to both the East and West FMTB training sites.

So, he knows he going to be assigned as a Field Corpsman with a Marine unit? Some take the FMTB training (actually, I think they all take it) but then go on to other C schools or jobs.

Make sure your sailors in the US read this!!

One of my moms told me her son in law was fined almost 800 dollars for not knowing and obeying this law. It's pretty much in effect across the country!!

My big mistake on this N4M board is taking people as they say they are, ruthella. With a site this huge, there's bound to be snakes, frauds and hypocrites, we are a very diverse nation, and our sailors come from all walks of life. Same for the women on this site...and I've learned a hard lesson about trusting the wrong people, but I still try to keep myself open to real people. That's why I pretty much stick to the Iraq/Afghan board because those moms are real. The moms that come here are real. My Interfaith board has real people, and Futtlebutt, altho my name is on it, is Inga's to run,and we enjoy it. That's it for me, just real people. Seababy, whoever it was, made me laugh, that's always a good thing.

"Seababy was a hoax....... LOL " ......as are many on this board....it's the internet!

and your source? don't tell me!! I bet I know!! ha!!! now THAT's the the old pot calling the kettle black!!

Have a nice day Ruthella, and hope your son is safe and sound.

Jana, I had no idea at the time, because the only medical care I had growing up was on base...but I guess in my youth, I seldom saw a doctor, it was always a corpsman. And most were male back then. The bases have clinics, and the corpsmen run them, see the patients, refer any that need more care to the doctors. In the hospitals, I guess there are different levels of them, kind of like RN an LVN or the ones that go to certain C schools...surg tech, optician, ob/gyn, etc. Has your son been offered a C school? or shown any interest in going on?

My son is stationed in San Antonio, instructor in combat techniques to new medical personnel, and he's been offered several C schools...and it's frustrating to me because he views himself as a Field Corpsman and that's the job he likes...and says on C school. UGH!

And no matter what they say, they love those banners!! Congrats to your new corpsman and his family!!

No, she was not "ran off"...read the posts. On the post she deleted she said if she was wrong, she apologized. So I accepted her apology and moved on. Invited her to the group with deployed kids. It's really where she should be, those moms are the best at understanding and letting others rant, and cry, and whatever.

Let's understand one another. I do not particpate in the other group of corpsman moms for several reasons. First off, I was never dissatisfied with this one. It never gave me any "tech" problems at all. I think that was a 'reason' to start another group to have more control by someone. Second of all, I have a history, and it's not pretty, with one of women running the clique over there. Don't like her, don't trust her and I do just fine now that I've blocked her on other sites and she has finally stopped emailing me. I've learned to watch my back on these boards, and I do not participate in one where the back stabbing runs rampant. Don't know if you're in the "personal message" or email circle with that woman, but you can bet it's still going on. Just don't make the mistake of being a single mom, or unemployed or spending more time online than they think is okay...or you too will be BLAB..."Bored, Lonely and Broke"...which is how that Navy mom and her group refers to other Navy moms, including Inga and myself. Also, people that seem to know it all do not. Always double check anything told to you on a group, do not let it affect your son or your decisions about him without a lot of research. Some may talk a good rap, but don't know crap. It's all about control.

Has Seababy been back? now, THAT was a great source for real information!! hope she's okay.

Look carefully, you will see I never name my son. I'm just simply proud he's my son, grown and honorable. He's my youngest child, but he ain't no baby! If he'd settle down and give me baby grandchildren since my others are in high school, he'd be pretty close to perfect.

I am one that calls my son CUB He is my child and I even told him that's how I 1) keep his name out of anything I write and 2) He is my baby still... My son is okay for his mother to call him a cub..There is NO disrespect it is used in a very enduring way...
I don't think Bugsy will join us now on our other group, and I really don't blame her...She is going through a lot of stress with her Cub being in Afg for his 2nd deployment and you know what ladies she needs us ..Hmmmm and we won't be able to help her cuz she was ran off ... We should not attack anyone at all.. We are here to support each other...
