Was kind of wondering about the piggy flu shots and our boys, thanks for the heads up Uli! My company did regular flu shots last week at the office, I declined, have had a few medical issues myself recently and saw no reason to add to my already messed up system! Besides, I have probably been exposed to darned near every germ there is in my days as a turd herder! LOL

My son leaves Lajuene tomorrow morning to start his drive to Texas ( and is just amazed that the Navy is paying him for the drive, since he'll be stationed in San Antonio!)...and I have a house concert this Sunday...there will be birthday cake, he's not had a birthday home in 4 years, missed this year, too...but his grandma's chocolate icing will be on that cake!

Keeping my thoughts on those moms with kids deploying soon, positive energy for them to keep those smiles on their faces for their young sailors to see....and many prayers with those leaving the US.

Welcome back Ruthella - you've been missed! So happy to hear you enjoyed your time with your son. Will keep him in my prayers for a safe deployment and return!

Momof4 - my son said that the bowling alley was the hot spot during his phase 1 days when he wasn't studying! Seems so long ago but in fact we're just coming up on the 1 year anniversary of his leaving for boot camp, November 2nd. AMAZING what these sailors accomplish in a year!

Uli - I guess because that is my field of expertise I found the article interesting. Right now I am in the middle of getting about 100 community water systems sampled for just such things. Most folks have no idea how much work goes into their water, they just open the tap and expect it to be safe water. "Water Dog" I like the sound of that! I'm dual licensed meaning water and wastewater, my kids sometimes refer to me as a "turd hurder", like "Water Dog" much better! LOL

I like the BC glasses, wouldn't want to see them on him everyday..and now the Navy has done his eye surgery, he doesn't wear glasses or contacts either one anymore...but I like the "team" look, part of the building of the team, part of the lessons learned at BC.

There was a pretty interesting article in the St. Pete Times on Sunday regarding the drinking water at Camp LeJeune. I'm not too computer savy but I'm pretty sure you could find it on-line. As a water plant operator I found it interesting but also sad.

You can count on pics of both the son and the puppy Carol! We have always had big dogs along with our doxies, the last of which passed last Nov. just 3 months short of her 15th b-day. She was my Valentine Dalmatian! MIss having a larger dog around the house. We were pretty well screened before the breeder decided to allow us to have one of her dogs, one of the things she liked was that we had dalmatians and that they lived long lives. I guess because they also tend to be a little hyper and require lots of exercise. I can practically smell the puppy breath already!

while googling this, I found the most amazing youtube videos, not posting them, some are brutal, but honest about the love and dedication of these young corpsmen who serve with Marines. ...like Kristine's son, and all of ours who have deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Kristine, I will say, some day you're going to look back and realize that right now, as proud as you are of that young man, when he returns to you, you will realize there is no limit on pride for these young patriots who serve our country and your son will serve with the strongest and the best in his job, and be respected and loved by those with whom he serves. Please hug that sailor for us all before he leaves and remember when
he comes home , he's truly the Doc.

and don't forget about the group of moms with kids deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, we're always open.

Carol - LOL - the "vitamin M" has been administered! Getting the yard ready for the new Vizsla puppy - we're heading up to Jacksonville the weekend of Nov 7th to pick him up, can hardly wait! November is looking to be a good month, my sailor home for a while and a new puppy to play with, what more can a mom ask for?
