Nicki, first of all, my condolences to you and your husband and all of your family on the loss of your father in law. It's never easy, but right now particularly tough for a young couple like you. Hang in there, hang on to each other, and wish your sailor well from me, please.

To the new moms in worry mode...the young person you sent off to the Navy is not the same adult you will have in your life a year from now. Every time you seem him, he will be older, more mature, and it will amaze you. Don't start worrying about situations you can't change yet, right now your sailor is safe and sound getting his shit together, learning to be part of a team, learning to stand independently all at the same time.Let the pros do what they do, in this case, train your child to become military. Yes, as a FMF corpsman, your child will train with Marines, there are no free riders in those Humvees, this is a good thing. He will also be working with his Marines to make the able to do first aid, and life saving techniques, they are a team.

Be prepared..every Marine you know, past or present, will tell you that if your son is a field corpsman, then "he is one of the toughest mofos around". And at some point it becomes real to you, it's true. But...when he comes home, he's still your kid...you just get more hugs and ALWAYS a "I love you, mom" on every email and phone call.

He's going to be fine. He can do this. You raised him to make choices about his life and he is doing that, and these are not bad choices.

Step back, go to the gym, walk your dog, paint your living room, do whatever you do to keep yourself well and smiling.

If and when he is ever deployed to a war zone...we'll be here. You are not alone.

hi gals...I am here lurking and reading, can't post while I am at school working, plus I didn''t have much to say...until now with the "chesistcles"...I used to stuff my size "I" (yes I said "I") chesticles into a DD got tired of the to and fro action with no bra and walking like the hunch back among other things...I now no longer have, chesticles and they fit nicely into a C and they are always "sunny side up!!" LOL best thing I ever did took 6 lbs total off. I can now excerise with out getting to black eyes, a sore neck, back and shoulders.
Comment by Sharon P.M. on September 29, 2009 at 4:24pm
I would LOVE to not have to wear a bra - unfortunately my chesticles (I believe is the word I read this week) fill a pretty big (double letter) underwire when they're reined in!

LOL - Angie - your reference to the "fat poopy bird" reminded me of when my sailor was born. His brother wanted a baby sister in the worst way and when he got a brother that 3 1/2 yr old was none too happy, when I asked him if he was excited about mommy and his new baby brother coming home he told me "keep that poopy faced baby in the hoppitle!" This mom was crushed. Of course they are the best of buds now but it was touch and go then! My stepdaughter is due in Dec with her 2nd son now, when I asked my 3 yr old grandson Cameron what did he think we should name his baby brother, his response was "Poopy Corn" all I could think was well here we go again! And yes, he meant poopy corn in all it's glory.

Did you get that call yet? Did he call yet? did he? What's the ETA???? SO EXCITED FOR YOU Ruthella! :0)
Comment by Sharon P.M. on September 29, 2009 at 3:22pm
LOL Ruthella! I'm still trying to get past "the boat full of hot sailors and marines" Hey - I'm 45, not dead! LOL!!!!
Is your weather a little less humid up there today? We're expecting the first official "cold front" of the season some time today - WHOOHOO! Temps will be all the way down to 85 during the day and the humidity a delightfully dry 75%!
Comment by Sharon P.M. on September 28, 2009 at 3:31pm
Ruthella - What wonderful news - I am so excited for you! A boat load of Sailors (literally!) What great fun you're going to have! Enjoy your son and his friends! Did I read you're in Orange Beach, AL right now? Getting closer to my neck of the woods! If you decide to head down the west coast of FL you better let me know! :0)
