Uli - give that sailor of yours a big ol hug from the rest of his moms here at N4M!

Very touching poem - thanks for sharing!

Oh my, I go to bed apparently way too early! I'm ZZZZZZ and you girls are just getting going!
Uli - My son is also an Eagle, started as a Tiger as well! I was never a leader but have served on many committies. The pins that I got as a Scout mom mean more to me than any piece of jewelry in my box!

Our recruiters had a luncheon about a month before my son left for all the DEP parents and they answered every question imaginable, they were really supportive and honest. My sailor is the baby of the family but he's the one I worry the least about, he's by far the most adventurous and outgoing. He was a Boy Scout and his first year as a scout he was the youngest to go on a 50 mile backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail, he paddled 5 miles to an out island off Key West one year and had to survive off what they caught and he backpacked for 10 days through Yellowstone all before he was 15! He's a confident, able kid with a huge heart. Now, my oldest, he's a big old momma's boy who sobbed for weeks when he went away to college and to this day he cries whenever we have to say goodbye. Totally embarrasses his brother at airports! LOL

Oh - on the whole calling the recruiter's office during BC - they told me to call the day after my son left so that they could give me his mailing address and I could start writing him letters right away. Every sailor in that office was wonderful, upfront, gave it to us straight what to expect, I can't say enough good things about them. Their office is right next to my WW meeting place so I see a couple of them once in a while and they always at least act happy to see me! They definitely have made the whole Navy experience exceptional, last year they even sent home a pink "NAVY" t-shirt with my son for me to wear at the breast cancer 3 day walk!

Margo - What is it with middle aged men and motorcycles? My husband got a street bike about 4 years ago - I swear if he worshipped and adored me like his bike and his boat you would never be able to wipe the smile off my face! LOL

I totally understand the whole hurricane issue - I love the summer but hate when the storms start getting active! My company has a lot of work in the Keys and I do my best to stay out of there in the summer, especially now during lobster season, when a storm heads that way it's total chaos getting out of there, only one road in and out! This past weekend we had a tropical storm just off the coast all day Sunday and it was kind of freaky, totally calm, no wind to speak of, just grey skies all day and the tides were messed up. We're used to the wind whipping and howling with heavy rain from the storms! Not that we like them, just what we've grown used to! After going for almost 2 weeks with no power a few years ago after the storms, we are now well stocked with generators, window a/c units and lots of canned food and bottled water.

Angie - I am envious! Haven't seen a whale in the wild since I was a little girl (a long, long time ago!) My dad lived in Port Angeles, WA most of my life. We have an otter that comes around our dock in the spring and fall, no idea what he does all summer and winter. Very much a clown, likes to lie on our dock and eat oysters.

Margo - that is quite the honor for your son to follow in his uncles footsteps, he surely has a guardian angel on his shoulder that is proud as can be! My son is following in my dad's footsteps, he was also a Navy Corpsman, green side!

Margaret - where are you in FL? I'm a FL girl myself! West coast!
Ruthella - gotta ask, when you say you want to cross FL on the boat, where do you do that? I'm thinking somewhere down by Ft Myers, cut across one of the bigger rivers to Lake Okechobee and then out another river to the other side? Ashamed to admit this FL girl has no clue, when I want to get to the other side I jump in my truck and drive! LOL! Our boat is tiny compared to yours, 24' Wellcraft with a walkaround cuddy so we pretty much keep it here on this coast, been as far north as Cedar Key and as far south as Sanibell.
