So glad to see the posts about LD21 - I was thinking to myself is this for real or is it a joke? I lean toward being more like Tex, tell it like it is. Our kids are in the military, that means if we are at war there's a darned good chance they will see combat, what exactly is hard to understand about that? Good grief! Ladies (and Dads), you have raised your children to become adults, they have become acceptional adults, job well done!! :0)

Really! I went to bed too early!

My son lurks occasionally on this board...he said "mom, you were upset when I went to BC..." and I said.."yes, I was. I missed you terribly, you had been in that bed every morning of your life almost every single day of it... but I didn't worry or even think much about what you were doing, it never entered my mind that you might not be able to do this....and certainly, no mom sees her kid off to the military when our country is in two war zones without worry..." You raise them to grow, make their own decisions in life (even if you don't agree!) and work hard and live their lives. You don't get to tell them "I changed my mind, you need to never leave home...". I'm pretty proud of my son and my daughter, like we all are, I've raised smart good kids who have matured into smart, better adults with loving hearts and strong work ethics. I think LD21 will realize she did that as well. I hope so!

My dog is going to turn me in to the cruelty people if we don't walk tomorrow, but it's HOT by 9am, especially for her, she's short. It's still in the 90's here right now!

When you delete your account, all your posts, any discussions you started, or groups you started are removed, like you never ever existed. She must have deleted her account. I hope if she' s lurking that she sees she's missed! and we're such worry warts, we'll worry.

No, Gloria, I was my normal brutal self right up front and she asked to be my friend...she needs frank talk, she can't keep listening to that recruiter. Guys like that make them all look bad!

Angie F.- WA: HM mom is her friend I think. I mean in real life. She made me her friend yesterday on this board, but she's not there now.

She's pretty spooked, I hope she comes back...it's going to be a long two months for her.

Well, happy news on my sailor - he's coming home for the Labor Day weekend and a fellow classmate or two is coming along with him! This mom is in her glory! Of course my son has already told me that this will probably be his last visit home for a couple years as he hopes to go overseas but I will not dwell on that! :0)

LD21 - Breath, slowly breath...your son will be fine. This is obviously a difficult transition for all of you but you will make it! Send him lots of uplifting letters while he's in boot camp, no "crying I miss you so much letters" aim for the "we're SO PROUD of you" theme, it will do him wonders. As far as where he will go after A-school, you're putting the cart in from of the horse, that's a long way off so relax! Have you popped into the page for bootcamp moms yet? And I don't know where you live but you may even have a page for local area moms, I know that where I live we have the Tampa Bay area moms page. Hang in there, your son didn't go in blindly and he's much stronger than you know!

yeah, no cutesy stuff...or condoms. My SIL put condoms in a package my daughter mailed...(he's an Army vet) ....and my son was hailed as "captain condom" for the duration...hey, they gave him the choice to accept the package or not, and he just saw his sister's name..."what harm?" HA!
Comment by TexasDocMom on August 16, 2009 at 4:14pm
Great post, Christy. LD21, he is fine. No one is going to hurt him, he is getting 3 meals a day, and he's in the USA.

I know it's all new to you, but visit the group with Kids in Iraq and Afghanistan, those women, they have reason to be scared, and they hold each other up. Some have 2 or 3 kids in the military and some are deployed at the same time. Your son is fine. Get out of the house, do some exercise, see a chick flick...something!!
