Kristine, my son was transferred out of that unit in March when he was yoyoing about re-enlisting or not, or he'd be headed to another deployment as well. I know cher's son has transferred out and another corpsman that will be in San Antonio with my son in the fall, they must have made a big turn over. It will be bitter cold there, start checking those moms with kids in Afghanistan, start finding out what helps....and don't forget foxsox.com to get those military socks...coyote brown. Tell all the family, they're expensive but worth it. Shop for that winter camping type stuff now while they are clearing it out in the stores.

Can you tell I was preparing myself for my son to deploy in November back before he transferred out?

Catching up here as usual! Never seem to even look at my computer on the weekend never mind actually turning it on! LOL
CONGRATS to all the new gradutes! Way to go Sailors!!
Tex- GREAT news! San Antonio is a nice town to visit as well!
Got some news of our own this weekend - we're getting another grandbaby in December! This is the 2nd for our daughter, our grandson will be 3 on July 4th!

Thank you all...I hope my son stays in San Antonio, but who knows, he''s on that "List" of people who go if needed...but I'll enjoy it while it's happening...and get the gutters cleaned, and the fence fixed, and the compost turned....geez, he'll be ready to deploy in no time if I do all that!

Stevenmom, my son was stationed at Camp Lajuene and went to train in Virginia, it wasn't forever, just several weeks, if I'm remembering correctly. That's actually where the Marines went down in the heat from my previous posts!

Thanks, all...it still hasn't sunk in yet! I'm pretty pleased, this time last year I was on pins and needles and not sleeping with him in the sand, and now he'll be home on leave and then in San Antonio!

When Matt was in one of the schools, he was talking about giving shots, and I told him my mother ( a nurse for literally 50 years...) had her students practice on oranges, to get the wrist action...and he said "good idea"...then I asked what they practiced on ...."Marines". cracked me up. He is convinced he is the IV champ because of my mother's genes...he called one day , so excited! "Mom!! 14 Marines went down in the heat! I hit 8 IVs! One even arrested! it was GREAT..." yeah, son but not for his momma...( by the way the kid that arrested was fine...) Or when he called and had been hitting IVs in the air in the helicopters..."I'm good at this mom"...no ego there...I told him his grandma was sittin' on his shoulder....

Things have changed for my son...no more NASCC, he'll be going to San Diego for Instructor's school, then on to San Antonio to work in the new Corpsman training facility...so even closer to home!! 67 miles from the base gate to my front door according to him!! What are the odds? and maybe he'll stop with the "I'm ready to deploy again, this is boring!"...because a couple of the corpsmen he was in the sand with are also doing the same thing...and since there are no instructor quarters, they will "have" to get an apartment together....life's tough, isn't it?

Safe travels to your son Kathy! It is so hard for us moms to see our little birds fly from the nest, it just never gets any easier! :0)

LOL - My son had PIR on Dec 24th and this Florida mom got to have a very cold, white Christmas! OK - just for a little while, got my butt back on a plane Christmas morning with my sailor and was quite happy to be back in the land of palm trees decorated with twinkly lights! The snow was pretty to see but sooo cold! My favorite part was when the sailors marched in all bundled up - I too was able to find my son right away as he's a tall boy as well! :0) Needless to say, it was a long cold A school for my Florida boy!

By the way...that banner headquarters is right here in Austin TX, I'm so proud of them! and I have a banner that reads "Welcome Home to our Texas Doc, we love you Matt..." or thereabouts, so if you have a Texas Doc coming home named Matt at anytime, I will be happy to share it...The kid insisted it was over the top for me to get it...but my friend snapped pics of him as he came down the escalator at the airport and you can see his eyes light up, and the glisten in them ....he was pleased! Boys...geez....

Cathy - I live on the sunny gulf coast of FL! Just a tad south of where your son will be though! The beaches up that way are absolutely gorgeous, you definately need to visit! Not to worry, most of the sailors are in their 20's just a few older and they really do take them under wing!
Inga - If he finds a way to go right after C-school, he'll do it. He's a very determined young man. Time shall tell!
